I have picked up an old W reg MK3 from a family member with only 56k on the clock. There are a few issues I'd like to try and fix myself so I would appreciate some advice on the following if anyone can offer some help!

1. The clutch pedal sticks a bit. When depressed and then let go, it comes up very slowly for the first inch or two before coming back normally. It's driveable once you get used to it but it's certainly not normal. What could this be?

2. Radio works fine with ignition off. With ignition on, it works most of the time but will turn itself off a couple of times within about 10 minutes. With engine running, it turns off completely and will only turn on when pressed for a split second before switching off again. I pulled out the radio and all wires are firm.

3. The passenger window button on the drivers side doesn't work.

4. The central locking doesn't work (tried new battery in fob - light blinks but no response from car.) Have to lock manually but even then key turns with difficulty and the front passenger door doesn't lock at all.

If anyone can help with any of these I'd be very grateful! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. It's a cable clutch.

I'll try the radio and window switch tips and get back.

1. Is it a hydraulic clutch or cable?

2. Test the positive power cable with a multimeter, at the various stages and report back the results. With the ignition on, car running etc.
(You could always just obtain a new source of power and run a cable from something nearby, like the cigerette lighter socket and be done with it.)

3. Take door cards off, swap switch from other door, see if it fixes the issue, if it does buy a new switch. If it doesn't, apply some power to the motor directly and see if it activates. Do the same on the other motor, if both the switches and motors work, it could be a siezed mechanism, its unlikely though.

4. Cant help, I hate that stuff.
1. I have sprayed the clutch linkage and cable everywhere I can access and it has improved a little. I suppose the only fix then would be to remove the cable from one end to give it a proper soaking?

2. Do you mean the positive lead coming from the battery? Behind the radio unit they are all plug in socket type things that are wired with loads of individual little wires collecting in one socket - could I really just find the red power one, cut it off and run it directly to the battery?
