Hi guys, I just replaced all the brake drums and shoes on the back, plus discs and pads on the front of my Mk4 polo 2 weeks ago, after getting on the road again I noticed that the car was juddering at high speed and pulling to the left, at first for a bit I thought it was the front left brake until last week i burnt my hand on the rear left brake drum.

However I have bled the brakes and ajusted (and loosened) the handbrake and also double checked the assembly and put in a little extra copper grease, yet its still doing the afore mentioned things. Now when i first bled the brakes I forgot I had the rear left drum off, so the pistons were pushed right out and the brake fluid leaked everywhere, so I topped up the reservoir and bled the rear brakes, now I don't know if the pistons coming out could be causing the binding, but my step dad has said it could be a problem with the handbrake cable, do either of these seem likely?

I know that the driver side brake is running as sweet as a nut, but the longer this goes on the more the brake will wear, and the hotter it will get and the more annoyed I seem get :-/

Check the condition of the handbrake cable at that side,if the cable gets damaged or a kink in it or a rust patch it can stick on and cause the shoes not to return to off position/ Are all return springs connected correctly to the shoes, and adjuster lubricated and working?. It may well be worth trying a new slave cylinder as they're not expensive if you think something is wrong with it, although on drum brakes the shoes are pulled off by the springs, the cylinder pistons may not be returning to their correct place because of being over-extended.

If the brakes are sticking on the drums will be almost impossible to remove. I assume you checked other side to see if that was hot too, if that was cold it might be that side at fault.
