Urgent help needed! My 106 has just developed an overheating problem, it is fine in traffic but at A Road speed it creeps up until the light on the temp gauge comes on...

1st question is, although the light is on, the gauge is not actuall into the red? There are no other signs of overhearing, steam etc.

If you slow down to 50 or stop for traffic the meddle drops and the light goes out.

We have flushed the system twice, replaced the thermostat, still have the same issue.

Recently I put back in all the original air box and associated pipe work, the car ran ok for a while and then the over hearing started.

Water pump seams to be flowing ok.

We are at a loss, any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Get hold of a DVM with a temperature sensor & see what temperature it is actually at when this happens, if you ask around you will probably find someone has one.

What's owners manual say the light can mean ? Is it just overheating or can it be low water level for example

Just a random thought

thanks chaps for the replies. I was thinking, could this be all linked back to the air filter change. I have put it back to standard but it an old filer in there, could it be running lean/ rich and the engine heating up too quickly so the cooling system is struggling...it funny that it seems to only struggle when under load when it is receiving most air through the rad.?
