Impact driver, to get those caliper bolts out! Once again, Halfords professionals' version is excellent.

1) Metal-to-metal drill bits (for drilling off screw/bolt heads with damaged/stripped heads) 2) Propane or better self-igniting blowtorch 3) An impact gun can make your life soo much better! 4) Screw/bolt extractors 5) As odd as it might sound, try to keep any old parts that you remove from your vehicle, as you might be able to use them to improvise with something or assist you in other ways. 6) This is more of a tip really; if you need to press your front brake pistons back when fitting new brakes, I once used a wheel bearing kit disc along with a crowbar, to gently push the piston back (using part of the caliper as a leverage point)(sorry I don't have a photo of this!)

The ones you can tighten with a hex bit! Need to grip hard enough to survive a blow from the club hammer.

Is it necessary to have both normal spanners and the flare nut spanner or will the later suffice?

In 99% of situations normal spanners will be absolutely ok and are an awful lot cheaper too.
In a lot of situations flare nut spanners will positively get on your tits.

IMO a set of open/ringers is all you need...to start with anyway.

I would always say a brake union flare spanner is a good idea, but not a full set.

I have a good 11mm flare spanner for brake unions and a cheap eBay set of other sizes - 24mm very useful for lambda sensors
