locking wheel nut snapped, half now left on stud!!

I have used a torque wrench on wheel nuts/ bolts for the last 48 years, and will continue to do so, I agree that the majority of problems are caused by over tightening by the person fitting the wheel, I came across some unbelievably graunched up wheel fasteners during my time in the trade , on a couple of occasions this resulted in necked studs needing replacement and a 6 foot scaffold tube extension on the tommy bar on others, only ever had one gall up the thread though, but studs replaced as a matter of course.Regarding greasing fasteners , I have only known aluminium alloy wheel nuts suffer severe corrosion problems but still grease all road cars.
I'm away for 3 weeks but will do some experiments to determine the difference in stretch between a lubricated stud and a non- lubricated one ,using the same applied torque figure, could be interesting !
