I'm putting together a lightly blown K-series engine (about 0.7 bar). It'll be carefully built with a nitrided crank, Malhe motorsport bearings and ductile liners etc and I was looking for advice on piston rings.

In the past, with NA builds, I've trusted good quality (but OE) Malhe rings or similar. I have been offered a set of TP-Goeze ones on this occasion, but are they any good? I'm (perhaps mistakenly) concerned by the fact that they're made in China....

Any experience with Total Seal?

I would speak to DVA Power or Eliseparts as they use a lot of our Ductile Liners and can recommend ring packs. We like Total Seal a lot, but I'd be surprised if they had the right ring pack on the shelf, so that would involve a special order. PEC might also have rings available.

based on similar research and advice from people who build more engines than me and have more experience with this stuff im going with total seal conventional rings with my next set forged set of pistons.

check the Mahle MS catalogue they have a bunch of off the shelf rings?

Have used OE Goetz rings in competition engines no problems, although not boosted.

often people just use "standard" and adjust the end gaps based on how much heat youre going to put into it.

In 40 years I've never come across a specific piston ring problem in any engine. It's not a component I'd ever give much thought to other than whatever comes with the pistons and gap them properly if needed.

Thanks for all the feedback folks, I'll stick with properly gapped TP Goetzes then I think. James.

I have plainly used the rings provided with the Wössner 9:1 CR pistons by JDM dyno. Works to at least 1 bar of boost. :-) The rings, not my HJS motorsport 200 cell cat converter. it turned white and inactive in Spa at this boost level. The pistons need they valve pocket edges slightly machined in case not already done by JDM dyno or Wössner.
