I am looking at a November 16 Registered bike at a dealer quite a long way from me . Its a proper KTM dealer and they have answered all my questions, I am just considering the part exchange offer now and if to do the deal or not.

My Questions:

Does anyone know of known faults, reliability issues on these bikes and do dealers who dont supply the bike take on warranty and recall work. I have a dealer 20 miles form me this one is 220 miles from me.

Thanks

Hi mate, generally if it's a main dealer purchase and the bike is a 16 reg you should have no problem getting warranty work done by your nearest ktm dealer, I did excactly that when I had a ktm, I've not heard anything effecting the 1290, it looks a superb machine, I love the new s model!

I've had mine since July last year and have had no problems at all with it, nor have I heard of any recurring faults. It's a superb machine covering so many roles - I can't fault it and don't think I'll be changing it anytime soon.

I bought it from a KTM dealer about 150 miles away but my local dealer has had no issues sorting out any minor issues under warranty. In my experience, KTM main dealers have always been a friendly helpful bunch.

Seem to remember there was a few bikes that suffered with clunking forks.

The early '13 model 1190s had some issues, mostly sorted out on the '14s, and the 1290s carries with the same changes. I've got a 14 plate 1190R and I've got a recall for the wiring harness fraying or something the will do at the next service.

They are fairly bulletproof now.

Just sold my Thruxton, so browsing for a new bike, and tempted by a 2015/16 1290 Super Adventure. Have they proven to be relatively reliable?
