Halfords trolley jacks

Hey folks
Need a new 'proper' jack after my ancient draper has given up the ghost. Was eyeing up one of the Halfords lifting kits, it seems a good deal for £50 if the quality is good. I must admit to being a cinder block kinda guy in the past so having axle stands too might be a nice change.
Anyone had any experience, also any similarly priced alternatives?

you are much safer with wood blocks than those anyways 
cinderblocks -not so sure if that's a good idea if they are the proper hollow cinderblocks.
Personally I wouldn't bother with that kit, my 20pound Lidl Trolley jack does a fine job - I think they will have it on offer right not as well.
Jack stands... I wouldn't want to get under the car with just them, specially those cheapo halfords one, they are fine if they are proper 4 leg heavy-duty ones AND you have a solid base underneath + always make sure you have Insurance in form of a big chunky wood blocks, in case of anything & always be smart.
In short- Don't risk your life with that kit, those jackstands are crap, so does the rest of the kit.
That rolling thing.. isn't as practical as it looks.
those wheel chocks again, looks tiny and not that secure, I use wooden blocks cut in nice angle, nice and chunky.
If you still want to spend more than 20 for a trolley jack, do a research and buy the best one you can get for the 50notes you want to spend on that kit.

I have the Halfords set. It's been fine for my E34 540, Jag X-type 3.0 and my recent E39 540. Lots of other cars but those were the heaviest.
Stands are perfectly sturdy, roller thingy is okay on a smooth surface.
Had the set a good 10 years plus. Use it correctly and never had any issues.

ive got a sgs and halfords trolley jack.
the halfords one is more substantial and bigger, both good though. i bought the jack on its own. left it for a week holding my car up no issues, cost about 60 quid definitely recommend. i wouldn't get the one in the link though you wamt a proper big un as it really gives you confidence.

I've had a Halfords jack and stands for yrs, good bits of kit, heavy though.
I prefer to use ramps if possible but the stands are fine, as a backup, old wheels under the sills.
I've not heard of stands failing, only incorrect use, I prefer the ones with a steel pin rather than rachet jobbies.

I have a Halfords quick lift jack, think it's 3tonne.
It leaks around the cylinder, started doing it at less than a year old. I can't find the receipt so they're not willing to exchange even though it's a pretty safe bet that the only place to buy a Halfords jack is Halfords.
I'll be buying the Costco one when I get round to it.

I have 3 leg & 4 leg axle stands. The 3 leg are smaller than the 4 leg. Never had a problem with either under various cars & trailers incl my RRC.
If you have a tarmac drive use a good piece of board under the stands as unless they are of the type pictured in the OP's link they can sink into the tarmac resulting in instability and/or damage to the driveway. Same applies to trolley jacks.
Whilst I have used them, I've never had a crawler board & not felt the need to buy one.
Jack-wise I have a Bradbury Jackette in the garage but the ones that get the most use are a couple of the cheap 2 tonne Machine Mart variety & I've never had an issue with them either.

Cheers lads, I really love the look of those aluminium units (the SGS and Costco ones) but really can't justify paying twice as much for a lightweight jack that will just sit in my shed, if it was for my car boot I would definitely consider it though.
Kinda having a toss up between the Halfords kit and the SGS + 2 stands kit. Both are 2 ton jacks. Halfords has the back slider thing and an established warranty, SGS is slightly cheaper and has a carry case. Only looking for a 2 ton unit, my old draper was 2 ton and it worked great on my old Shogun SWB, your only lifting half the vehicle at any one time after all, my current sole vehicle is a NB mx5 which isn't exactly a heavy weight (unless you believe NA drivers
).
