My battery drops to 8v when cranking. Is it okay?
No cranking issues such as slow crank.

12v on BMW 4GC. Battery is about 3 years old.
Took my eyes off the ball when CTEK stopped charging and found the battery at 11.8v then managed to reconnect charger.

Thanks

8V is on the low side but not completely out of the normal healthy range. It shouldn't normally drop below about 9 - 10V.

Are you sure it's fully charged? 11.8V represents a completely flat battery so it would have taken a significant time on charge to fully charge it.

Measuring battery voltage is most useful when diagnosing starting problems, to work out whether the problems are caused by a weak battery or some other problem. If it's still cranking and starting easily even in cold weather, there can't be much wrong with it.

It was deeply discharged. I took my eyes off the ctek. Usually you can fit and forget a ctek for months. Somehow the car went into a deep sleep and was not charging. I reconditioned the battery today. Tested the cranking voltage. I got 10.2v. The resting voltage with every off and battery charged is 12.7v. I have connected the charger again and it seems to be working. Thanks
