Unable to undo sump plug
Discussion
Also, make sure the car is supported securely and not just on the jack. If you’re applying force from under the car, take no chances and ensure it won’t go anywhere when you’re under it.
I either use a 3ft breaker bar, but if I don’t have it to hand I put the jack handle over an old 1/2 inch ratchet.
To be honest, I could undo my sump plug with a standard ratchet, as it’s not over tight. I use the breaker bar to save effort as I’m getting older!

OP - the constant reference to 'wrench' worries me. What are you using? Monkey wrench, adjustable spanner, ring spanner or socket?
Please tell me you're not lying next to the wheel-arch and trying to do this at arm's length?
I have attached picture of the wrench. I lie down on floor, next to front bumper and extent my arm. Please tell me you're not lying next to the wheel-arch and trying to do this at arm's length?

or just buy a breaker bar , might be an idea to order a new sump plug if its been abused

My local garage charges me about £20 to change the oil & filter that I provide.
Saves me any of these hassles & the hassle of disposing of the old oil & filter.
What are you planning to do with the oil once (if) you get it out?
I think you can take it to council run waste collection area.Saves me any of these hassles & the hassle of disposing of the old oil & filter.

That is not the right ool for the job. No wonder you're struggling. You need either a key or socket which is a good fit on the sump plug, and either a T bar handle with an extension, or a breaker bar. You may need to lift the car to get enough space. This is a quick, easy and therefore cheap job for a garage to do for you. Do consider how badly you want to do this for yourself. Presumably you do still plan to get it serviced and not plan to do all that for yourself.Gassing Station | Home Mechanics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
