I need to do some welding on a Hyundai i20 and usually this means disconnecting the battery however I don't have the radio code, not even sure if there is one?

How can I get round this?

If the 12v sockets (cigarette lighter in old money) stays live with ignition off then there are devices which plug into cigarette socket to power the radio etc when battery removed.

Search 'welding antizap device'... little box of magic that clamps on to battery terminals like jump leads, allegedly stops voltage spikes.
I use one and have never had problems, but equally I don't know if I would have had without it! They're not expensive, so they're worth the punt in my mind.
Also supposed to also be used when jump-starting, for the same reasons.
Good advice I heard when welding is to keep the current path short, ie have the ground lead as close to the weld as possible.

Use a surge protector and leave the battery connected.

Would that not also provide power to the ECU and other delicate electronic items that may be damaged by welding?

Having looked into these surge protectors there’s a lot of people who say they most likely don’t offer any protection anyway, rather nothing more than a gimmick!

Just make sure you have the welders earth clamp making a good connection and crack on with it imo.

This, probably wait 20 minutes or so after switching off the car before starting welding, just to make sure the ECU,s have gone to"sleep" if you like but I just crack on.

Put your return clamp as close to your area as possibly
