Chevvy cruze code 89

I have been asked to look at friends car.
1.6 petrol ecotec 2013 chevvy cruze (non turbo)

Car runs and drives perfect but comes up on the dash "code 89" no EML or loss of power.

And if you press menu button on stalk it goes away until you stop and restart the car. So i assume its not a big problem but the car is going up for sale soon.

A quick google mentioned thermostat. I have changed that with no change. Some others mentioned service required or service light reset. I have tried all methods online to reset service light or counter.

No codes stored. Just code 89 on dash.

Read through the list.
I have changed thermostat and housing. And 2nd lambda sensor but code 89 still comes up.

No fault codes stored and code 89 goes away when you hit menu button on stalk and does not come back on until car restarted and driven.
