Just done my second module, it was the same as the first one I done last month, it was a painfully boring 7 hours, doing another tomorrow
Same module again - 3rd time?
Yea because thats how useless they are, its all bout hours not the subject of the courses.

You can sit the same course 5 times and you ve done your 35 hrs.

FARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a lucky escape. Both my courses so far have been based around driving in London and seeing as I have only twenty years experience in that field, I would have undoubtedly killed someone or driven into Harrods by mistake had I not taken those modules when I did.I'm all for them.

Another 7 hours under my belt today, at least the course was different today, to be honest I shouldn't really complain as its costing me nothing and one of the two I do next month will be on overtime clap

For those with LGV grandfather dcpc rights.....

Complete the 35 hours of periodic training at anytime during the current 5 year period which in this case is from 09/09/2009 to 09/09/2014 and 5 years gets added to the current expiry date of 09/09/2014

Im with you. I have grandfathered rights too, so I presume that the same deadline in 2014 applies to me too?

Himself has done 3 of the lessons, so 21 hours down, 14 to go. He might be doing number 4 on Saturday, work is paying for it (about all they do pay for though!)

Yes - as long as you have LGV and not just PCV

This will only change if a driver does not have either LGV or PCV grandfather rights and does the initial dcpc for the category they have not got

That gets very intesting and long winded in regards to expiry dates

As I have time I will do an example of a driver who has LGV grandfather rights for dcpc but no PCV category on their licence (D1 & D1+E with 101 restrictions do not count)

Driver passes the last of all 4 initial dcpc PCV modules on 08/08/2012
They get issued automatically with a DQC (driver cpc card)

If they have not yet completed all 35 hours of LGV periodic dcpc then that DQC will have these expiry dates on it -
LGV 09/09/2014
PCV 07/08/2017

If they have completed all 35 hours of LGV periodic dcpc or complete those 35 hours before 09/09/2014 then a DQC will be automatically issued with these expiry dates
LGV 07/08/2022
PCV 07/08/2022

The current rules are that the DSA add the 5 years worth of periodic dcpc onto the expiry date of the initial expiry date therefore extending the expiry dates for both to 07/08/2022

Perioidic training can only be counted towards the next set of 35 hours if done within 5 years of the DQC expiry date so in the example above no more periodic training will count until after 07/08/2017

If anyone is thinking of getting the extra category then to make the most of DQC expiry dates I suggest they pass the last of all initial 4 dcpc modules just before their current expiry date so it gives them the longest DQC expiry date possible

In the example in the last post that would mean passing the last of the inital PCV modules on say 09/09/2014 to give a DQC expiry date of 08/09/2024 !!!

No Rog, just so looking forward to another 35 hours of a numb bum and trying to stay awake laugh

I shouldn't really complain as I don't need the DCPC for my job as I come under the exemptions rules, just done the course as my employer offered it to me and to be honest my LGV licence would really be worthless outside of work without the DCPC card I took the opportunity to do it also 3 of the days were on overtime which was a bonus

I asked as many think that doing the 35 hours the once covers them for the rest of their LGV career without realising that the 35 hours needs to be done within every 5 years of the expiry date

Most will be doing their next 35 hours between 09/09/2014 and 09/09/2019 to cover them for the period 0/09/2019 to 09/09/2024

Can someone let me know where I stand.

I currently have LGV ( Passed HGV class 2 in 1988!!! with the military)

I dont use an hgv commercially but do drive a private one.

As far as im aware to continue driving privately I dont need the cpc

but obviously if i did any commercial driving i would need a cpc.. In that case at what point do i need to have that CPC now or in 2014 some time ?

cheers

You can continue to drive LGVs commercially until 09/09/2014

To drive LGVs commercially after 09/09/2014 you must first complete 35 hours of driver cpc periodic training

Driving LGVs privately does not require dcpc
