Seems to be happening this weekend http://www.vertikal.net/en/news/story/16629/
Saw a few pics of Ainscough rigging up that beast on Facebook a little earlier cool
Is there any further info anywhere, Vertikal have pictures of the erection of the crane just wondered if they managed to inspect it today with the man in a basket ?

Steal them and post them here!
Would appear they did an inspection yesterday or the day before. Heres a couple of pics from that heavy crane fan page on Facebook smile -

Not too sure i'd be that keen to dangle 192ft up off the ground to inspect something TBH!... yikes

Anyone get any better photo's of this beauty today?

Leicester Heavy Haulage carrying a Hercules! Whole outfit over 45m long! This is all my friend could get as he drove by. It will be M6 North tomorrow, Cov to Staffs. If anyone manages to get a good bridge shot of it, please pm to me. Thanks.

Crikey, hope that comes my way via the A1!... biggrin

I guess that will be Paul in Leicesters TGX.680 transporting this (top bloke) what a sight though i bet that was!

Think i saw this pic posted up on Facebook a little earlier too?

I remember S.A Smith (His old DAF at least although i can't be sure wether it was his at the time) took on a similar movement not too long, think the aircraft had been dis-assembled a fair bit more than the one ^ though!...

Your right - it is Paul, and yes he is a top bloke.

Won't be coming your way, unfortunately - it is a peculiar sight.

I put it on FB so Paul could see it.

I've just been checking out some of the pics over on FB. Paul and his support crew took some nice shots themselves that have been posted to a few groups i peruse on there. Apparently unloading at ALEs yard (IIRC) was a bit of a faff!...

Shame he couldn't make it down my way with it this time. Managed to organise an inproptu session with him whilst he was transporting a big rail translocator last month! The pics of that or on the last page smilecool

i believe there is one now aimed at the fire service, think it works on an articulated truck setup, sure i heard it was 100metres.
Not quite the same thing, but my local fire service took delivery of a pair of these a little while back -

Called a CARA (Combined Aerial Rescue Appliance) which supposedly offers all the features of a regular fire engine, but with a remote controlled rescue platform on the roof (Meant to save time waiting for a Turntable Ladder to arrive supposedly) they had two for a station in Peterborough (The one ^) and another for Cambridge, but neither has yet been on the run due to persistent mechanical gremlins and faults!...
Ones back in Germany having a propshaft replaced IIRC. A nice idea oin theory, but i don't think the service is much amused anymore TBH. (£300k a pop!) paperbag

Bloody hell! ^^

I wonder if they were using that as a pusher tractor behind some gargantuan load to cause the truck to fall apart like that perhaps!

Dunno what was going on today, but there were some immense cranes being shifted about up the A1 this afternoon! -

Got some info for the German based Liebherr ^

LTM 11200-9.1, 1200te capacity. 100 metre main boom (92 tons Gross without the boom installed!) Was an absolute monster! biggrin

Had the good fortune to see and phot BJ&C Carberrys latest beastie yesterday afternoon! -

As seen on the cover of Commercial Motor a couple of weeks ago. Its an 80T R560 8x4 fitted with a rather special Cormach 19m HIAB crane, serious bit of kit for sure!

This fleet runs out of Suffolk somewhere IIRC, only operate 8-9 vehicles, but each one is very well turned out i must say! cool

Parked up in the middle of a trading estate in Eaton Socon. To say it stood out like a sore thumb would be a gross underestimation!... biggrin

Now confirmed as the biggest tractor unit i've yet seen on the road!

Simply humongous Volvo FH16 540 10x4 of MPS/NRC making steady progress up the A1 toward the Black Cat yesterday afternoon with a 97 ton + (Before ballast!) Link-Belt (Demag?) heavy piling rig! smokin

A couple more shots of Leicester Heavy Haulage's X1LHH mentioned earlier in the thread.
These were taken after I escorted it back in to the yard from Immingham docks

cool

I showed Paul these pics on Facebook last night. Some bit of kit that trailer, he uploaded a few shots of it loaded with an enormous prefab of some kind, looked immense! nuts

Saw a nice gaggle of H.C Wilson units out moving 4 enormous brewery vessels up the A1 earlier today. Some sight! biggrin

Got a winning shot of their newest wagon, European Dream (R620 Top), also. What a cracker! cool -

That's a rig I would love to see. Seen several photos of JST FH units moving similar loads to that with the body of the machine positioned similarly on the trailer. Looks neat IMO!

Yet another wind farm is going up in my region and the smart fleet of Give Svaergods (Bill Livingstone Trans) can be seen moving the various parts along the A1 quite regularly at the moment cool -

Nice!

Looks good that. Some load too!

Mercedes Trucks had a 6x4 heavy haulage spec Arocs tractor unit on display at Truckfest earlier in the year. Did look impressive I must say. Could easily see it suited to STGO work or pulling a big bulk ejector tipper or similar cool

Not exactly heavy haulage, but we get a lot of super-sized properly massive bulk tankers (that must be right on the size/weight capacity limit) on our site from Freund logistics. Why is this noteworthy? Well, I've never ever seen such a smartly-liveried and beautifully maintained fleet of trucks.
Its always a new Volvo FH pulling it, and the livery is very plain and simply but because of that it works so well, with no fuss, The colours suit it too - dark metallic green truck and pastel green trailer. Whatever the weather or road conditions are like, the truck, tanker trailer and all the chromed alloy wheels are ALWAYS absolutely gleaming to mirror-polished show standard. Makes me smile whenever I walk past one parked up waiting to unload smile

Here's a file photo of the sort of condition (and smart-looking livery) they are always in:

I see a few of Freunds out and about from time to time and always admired how well kept they are. Goes to show a good colour scheme and overall attention to detail/cleanliness can be all you need to make a lorry stand out sometimes. cool

In the same bulk tanker sector, Van Bentums from Holland (Amazing livery and their yards are spotless too!) Lomas Distribution, NJ Docksey and the always superbly turned out fleet of Simon Gibson are well worth a mention too!
