Theyre terrible off road (relevant as theyre a dual purpose vehicle and off road driving is a fundamental part of their job)!

That said I bet that its nice on the road, although Id prefer it with a little less tacky crap and I cant see the need for a massive cab on a st-shifter.

I think the fact it's so over the top is the reason I quite like it why it needs to be a 620 v8 is beyond me.

My all time favourite would be a 3 series v8 Scania

If you remove the tatseless lights, paint and crap then its a nice lorry. Drive one empty then laden and youll soon understand why he wants 600bhp!

You might even get better fuel economy with a monster of an engine. I know someone who had a 380 in their 6x4 Scania insulated tipper and their fuel figures were far better than I was getting in a similar configuration Mercedes with (a more normal) 100bhp less.

Yes to be honest I did prefer it the first time I saw it new in Scania's before it had all the bling and had 295/80's on the front instead of the super singles.

I hadnt noticed that. Whats the point of super single steers when they dont affect its max weight (but they do affect its tare weight)?

From the moment I saw it, I fell for Tommy Thomson's two tone, truly terrific ten ton Thames Trader truck, transporting ten tons of turquoise and tangerine twin tinted toilet tissue from Teddington to Timothy Whites and Taylors at 33 Thistle Terrace, Tewkesbury at twilight on Thursday the third of Theptember. Bugger....

Get out of here, the only thing worth removing is that bullbar, the rest of it looks spot on

That "tasteless" tat you refer to is possibly one of the best advertisements he could have on the truck, even with a name and no contact number on the truck, no one will forget it in a hurry.

A 620 V8 8x4, is awesome, you'd barely notice the load your carrying

We will disagree about that Martin. Having driven an 8x4 offroad then I believe that the bar will be useful, but the rest of the tat makes it look like a tarts handbag / tasteless truckers wet-dream!

Youre too high up for a dual purpose vehicle too, but you cant do a deal about that. The whole cab is ridiculous though - who has ever had to night out in a st-shifter?

I think people must be looking through rose tinted specs on this thread....

Personally ive got a soft spot for the old Volvo F10 flat top sleeper as its what my dad owned when he took me out on trips, and ever since watching 'Smokey and the Bandit' ive absolutely loved the old Kenworth W900. I also love the old Scanias and Volvos for what they were in their day but would i want any of the above to live and work in now????? Hell no, ive only seen one truck on here id be happy with, the M.A.N TGX XXL. I also rate the DAF 105XF Super Space, Scania is ok if specced right but im sorry, and im amazed its not got a mention after three pages is the Mercedes Actros, does'nt matter if its the MP2, 3 or the all new singing and dancing MP4, quite simply in my opinion its been the best truck on the road for the last 15 years which i think counts past and present.

All down to personal opinion tho of corse wink

Martin, this doesn't apply now because I've swallowed the corporate cock but most firm I've worked for a nicely specced white truck with no distinguishing features was an advantage, I.E dodgy basterds that pay well but you take you licence in your hands.laugh

We have quite a number of different units on the fleet, but I always try to get me hands on this as often as possible.

Renault 460 EEV

Fully auto, comfy ride, pulls like a train, you just have to get used to the quirky layout of cab controls. Love it.

They last 3 times longer on a steering axle, that's the reason I've alway been told anyway.

Making them cheaper in the long run then? Offset by the reduced carrying ability though.
