Many of you guys done it?
I've not done before & just pricing a job up at the mo & the list of countries to pass through like Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia etc just sends a shiver up my spine, am i right to be a tad worried?
is of course Italian ferry across to avoid them but tgat doesnt make great sense for where this location in the north east.

Where exactly in Greece? Town wise?
For us it's always a time scale thing. Italy is fine, ferry wise you have a few options and always a handy way to get a daily rest in, whilst on the ferry!
There are no countries to worry about these days if going by road, although the conditions of the roads in places is not quite silky smooth
As long as you have the relevant tax/toll box/means of payment for each country you'll be fine!

Oh right, surprised on the Italy thing, must be more down south, that was the big prob years back with hi-jacks, etc.
Been going for 20 years, and it was just south of Rome you had to think about, Naples etc.
At a quick glance, I'd be tempted to get a ferry out of Italy, into Igoumenitsa-Greece, then go across and up country!

i wouldn`t consider any other way, ferry from bari , does it still go to pareas(spelling ) Athens dock, not done it for a while but its a good break on the ferry and not having to deal with gun toting 16yr old police/soldier/mugger on a lonely dark road is a big plus

Tbh this is why I'd go the ferry route.
Last year we went through Romania, Bulgaria etc a few times and were stopped numerous times by the 'police' always after money for various trumped up charges. 1 night, a convoy of just 3 off us got stopped on the Sofia ring road 6 times.
I wouldn't say the Italians are the best drivers, but the roads are good, often with good secure truckstops near by, carisio, the sisters at arluno etc!
Romania, Bulgaria etc, the driving standards IMHO leave a little to be desired :0

cant remember black forest but can remember orte , and the himshe that was the owners daughter/son .
to my shame owing to bad eyesight and being away from home for a long time th first time i walked , it (himshe)was sat right at the back and to my eyes looked rather tasty , until i got closer and to quote the great Italian , "whata mistaka to maka"

The black forest was a huge bit of waste ground behind the shopping mall at modena nord. By day, very quiet, but as it got dark, all the african hookers appeared. Never did fully suss out thr crack, but most of the girls were mafia controlled, not an easy life but they seemed to be cared for reasonably well.
Went on for years there, till 1 night 1 of the girls got murdered by some screwed up punter!!!
from then on, it gradually got closed down.

Could you not stop off at Cluses then through Mont Blanc down to Ancona and ferry across to Greece? I have to admit though it has been about 8 years or so since I did that trip, also depends on the time of year etc/weather conditions,i used to go over with a articulated covered car transporter, remember it being a bit of a bugger reversing the low trailer onto the ferry though, happy days!!!

Especially when there are 3 of them backing you on, waving hands, blowing whistles and generally jusg jumping up and down whilsg making no sense whatsoever

Few days off here Back in thursday, o2 london and onto dublin.
I used to do a regular Irish run in the ninties, Belfast ferry from Liverpool, return would be high speed ferry to Stranrar , I used to deliver frozen chickens to a coldstore on the Clyde, seeing those Irish boys coming off the ferry and going up that A77 ( iirc ) was something else, they had bigger balls than that bloke on the beach in the Southern Comfort advert.

Although to add, my freight insurance covers me for tons of countries that might be considered a tad dodgy, russia, several 'stans etc, but the only one they questioned me on ref how often I went & if had ever had theft issues etc was italy!
