Can't say I disagree, although you could feasibly argue the same point about a 4.6 tonner. smile 3.5 tonnes is where they've drawn the arbitrary line in the sand and we're stuck with it. However, like you say, it doesn't seem particularly logical that simply adding a trailer makes the O'Licence a necessity.

The driver's CPC means my LGV licence becomes fairly useless after September (I think it's this year) unless I go and get the CPC, but as I haven't driven a truck in 8 years means it's a bit expensive just to keep the licence current. Mind you, I've only got 5 years until it expires then I need to get a medical anyway. However, I don't want to lose the LGV entitlement.

Tacho, cpc, transport manager cpc, operators license, license for this that & the other, I know it's all to keep everyone safe on the roads to make sure people are not driving for too many hours & make sure vehicles are road worthiness but in this country they are very OTT aswell.

It's not just the Uk, it's pretty much the same across Europe.

I don't think you will loose your entitlement. Back in 1986 my then PSV licence expired, but when I got a C and then a C+E licence recently I got the PSV (Now D class) back on my licence.

SSM will keep the cat C or C+E entitlement until his medical expires , however it'll be fairly useless without Driver CPC

AIUI becasue the Cat C and cat D medical is the same if you had one in the past that expired and you get the medical for the other it's reinstated ...

You can keep your LGV, just do the medical when required, it just means you can't drive an HGV professionally unless you do the CPC course although there's nothing to stop you driving one for your own personal use if needed.
