Nick, be very dubious of drivers money claims, many are bellends that just want to play one up on you.
As for the Scania love, the was a time in my opinion that they were head and shoulders above everything, not now, I don't think they have really moved on in the last twenty years, I loved the 143, I thought the 144 was dogst, the current one does nothing for me either, but that's just my opinion, others will differ, but I'm not getting into an argument about trucks because I don't have a passion for them anymore.
Glad your enjoying yourself, after 21 years of class one work there are still times when I wouldn't do anything else.

Good post overall.

I'm the complete Opposite. I have just got a job back in racing, Still driving the truck, but much much more between.

Points to make that aren't Included in your post;

Vosa are on a huge recruitment drive. This is a bad thing for the industry.

You must have been working every hour that you possibly can to be earning that money. I predict single with no kids.

Truck driving is a job. It is not a career. There is no progression. If you stay at the same place for ten years, you will still have the job title HGV Driver. If you're unlucky you may get "promoted" to an office based role. Most truck drivers don't seem to have your cheery outlook. I took on nightshift office cover as holiday cover for the regular chap. It's amazing how even your regular colleagues start to treat you like st once you are the other side of the windows.

I'm not bitter and twisted about my time as a full time driver, but being able to take a step back has made me realise how much of a dead end it is.

I agree about the office and the dead end career bit, I did a stint as a shunter for DHL then went in the traffic office, absolutely loved it, thinking of doing my international CPC and binning the Driving, also I had a life and could plan stuff, went out with mates, got reacquainted with my PS3, all of which I feel to quilt about when I'm having 5 days a month home.
