I'd always thought classes 1, 2 and 3 were scrapped in 1997 when the licence categories changed.

Old farts like me will know what you mean but it's been C1, C and C + E for a long time hasn't it?
Yeah good point im still thinking in old terms. Best not call a Technician a Fitter either or id be in real trouble biggrin

The driver cpc is total waste of time and money as is most of the bks we have put with. Let's have everyone on domestic rules and make life easier all round. I'm struggling to think of one piece of legislation that has improved the job in the last 26 years.

Class 3 and Class 2 were combined and Class 2 wagon & drag moved to Class 1. Easier to say in conversation, though.

I did my 1 & 2 for £2200 30 months ago, and that included the kitchen sink. The instructors were fairly good.
Theory cd, medical, licence and test fees, return train ticket to the theory centre, and a retest on the Class 1. (not CPC though)
Find someone you are comfortable with and pay as you go. smile

I think the driver cpc is ace from my stand point it has flushed the old semi retired guys/ farmers / guys doing it for a bit of extra out of the system , the very same guys who would work for peanuts to top up their pensions and or other incomes and by doing so hold down the pay rates for the rest of us who need to earn a living.

I say this as a ex driver recruiter who used these very same guys as they would work for less than guys who needed to earn a decent wage. here in the east midlands I have already noticed an increase in job adverts for hgv drivers
This

Proper (Class 1) driving has gone from being ten a penny to a skilled trade almost, since the CPC really kicked in.

I work in logistics - we can't get Class 1 drivers for toffee at the moment.

I'm 30, I have a small LTD company with a friend but when we're quiet i fall back on doing a little bit of class 1 work. I'm one of the lucky ones, i managed to find something else to do that pays the mortgage, I've driven full time before and enjoyed it, but sadly it consumed my entire life.

Give up your hobbies, give up your family life, give up seeing your friends and never plan anything. you won't have the time for them, the road comes first. it's just the way it is, its a loner's game really.

i enjoyed my time as a full time driver and I'm glad I've got my HGV entitlement, it comes in handy but things change, I'm getting married next year and I'd like to be able to enjoy some of my free time with my wife to be and not sleeping in a lay by after a 14 hour shift! if times got desperate I'd go back to it in a heart beat, it does get into your blood, but pay circa 3 grand to get into the game, id seriously think twice.

now, my CPC is due, i wonder whether i should bother or not!
