Looking for new van

Currently run 3 vans, which 2 have been purchased on HP, and one outright.

Sick of the maintenance costs, in the left year I've had:

1x engine
1x turbo
1x steering rack
1x gearbox
1x DMF and clutch
1X EGR

Lots of other little bits and many regular maintenance items on top.

So now I want a new or pre-reg van, with warranty.

Narrowed down to new Renault Trafic or Transit Custom, however the funding is my problem. The van is for staff to drive, so really I should probably go with the Trafic as it's cheaper, but I prefer the Custom.

To contract hire, lease purchase or HP, I have no idea!

Any advice, as its doing my head in.

Contract hire is a good option unless your vans get a hard life on bodywork, otherwise a maintained contract will look after you and see you right.

What kind of mileage are you doing?

Quite often the contract hire deals are the strongest.

Also consider a dispatch 1200 l2h1 enterprise, good spec, cheap to lease and just over 2.5m load length

£3000 more for Custom, so if HP, a fair chunk a month.

They *shouldn't* have too much of an issue bodywork wise for contract hire.

Mileage wise about 15000.

We need a reasonable payload, and reliability is key. They carry pretty much their payload every day, so get a hard time.

Contract hire can offer an economic way into a new vehicle and has the benefits of fixed costs for routine servicing etc. However, be careful to check the full life cost vs a straight HP and the biggest one of all- Return Conditions. Go through them with a fine tooth comb! Think about the annual mileage and how long you would look to keep the vehicle. Having run large commercial fleets for more years than I care to remember CH is the option I have used the least, imo it works best when the annual mileage is high, the potential for damage is low and you plan to renew the vehicles regularly.

Honestly don't go for the Renault - They are crap TBH as most of the others are.

TBH im not sure of the cost differences but Tranny's are by a mile the most popular and VW don't seem to bad tbh but imagine they cost more ?

From a new perspective there are no bad vans out there now, and that certainly includes Renault. Definitely worth looking at Contract Hire - Custom, Transporter, Trafic and Vivaro all have good predicted residual values and this will be reflected in the lease rate.

Underrated, although it did get voted 'International Van of The Year' last time round. Suffers a little with poor perception here, the Italians can't understand the lack of success in the UK market.
