Should a 26 tonne vehicle just happen to pass over a 3 tonne weight limited bridge and be spotted by "The Authorities" how long would the naughty boy documents take to arrive?

Would a first offence be a warning or would there be pounds and points involved?

Thanks in advance.

Why would you do such a thing in the first place? Such a low weight limit is highly likely to be there for structural reasons rather than NIMBY reasons.

Unless it's like the one half a mile from where I live. That bridge has a 3T limit for lorries, so the drainage company based just past it stay legal by using a huge tractor to tow artic trailers over it....

I followed directions from a customer. When I got to the bridge there was no possibility of turning.

So what? Would you have said that in defence to the copper when the bridge collapsed and your truck was sat at the bottom of the river?

What road and location was it? I would be very surprised if there aren't warnings on the approach to it in addition to the one on the bridge itself.

If I had seen a warning I would have acted accordingly - I am not in the habit of ignoring weight limits. rolleyes

The first sign I set eyes upon was at the entrance to the bridge itself, it is on a single track lane ( I am a rural driver) and reversing back would have been impossible.

How did "the authorities" react when they saw you doing it?

It wasn't an "except for access" one?

The whole area was 7.5t except for access, I qualified for access no problem.

Like a works van? Or traffic officers? Someone working on the bridge? The sort of van likely to have recorded you on a dash cam?

Was it 3 tonnes GVW, 3 tonnes laden weight or 3 tonnes per axle, and what did you weigh? I guessing that the tare weight for a six wheeler is around 10 tonnes?

I sympathise with your predicament, although I would have gone to great lengths not to break a structural weight limit (and I have broken the odd 7.5t but 12t buses limit in the past, in a 7t tare vehicle).

Id certainly have made sure that no one saw me!
