First post newbie but long time Luker

Been working for a company for many years ( pen pusher) but leaving soon and taking some of the guys with us

Anyway, they all have traffics at the moment but they are a little big for what we need

We need to fit 9.5 foot pipe inside so a Vito T5 type size assuming we can slide the pipe under the passenger seat with a false floor over

So with about £7k to spent what would you recommend?
T5 lots of money
Vito rust
Hyundai iload cheap but...
Any other ideas?

I've bought and driven vans most of my working life. When we left the UK I decided to buy my self a used van, living where we do it's an expensive process, least of all because you have to travel for 5-8 hours to get anything either decent or not silly expansive. With this in mind I thought push the boat out and buy a T5, always wanted one when we were in the UK but always bought cheaper. Changing vans in the UK isn't that bigger deal, here registration can cost 500€+ a go.

I have to honestly say, I would never change unless I needed to free up the cash. Get the 105bhp 19pdi and have a remap. I love driving mine every time I go anywhere, anyone who says it's all hype has obviously never owned one.

Regarding the Hyundai, get a price for a few parts before going down that rout.

If you're going to remap it you might aswell get the (usually)cheaper 84 bhp one as the engines are identical. Its only the software that differs.

The re map sounds a good plan
Had a mad idea about a v6 vito. Heavy on fuel but cheap to buy
Must be sensible with the juice though

I don't think it's fair for the lads to be stuck in a donkey of a van. I cover about 30k a year in a 17 year old a6 but it is comfy has all the toys and runs on veg
30k in a LDV would be nice for the pocket but not for the fillings or spine

I left a job after one day once, partly because they gave me a Vito to drive. I hated it. I had a customer who had a v6 auto V class. What a chunk, heavy and dead feeling to drive.

I'm sure I heard the 105 T5's can give more after map than the 84bhp ones. Check with a mapper before buying one. The remap means it#s more willing above 3k rpm and gives it loads more torque.

Regarding higher cost. The way I looked at it was they can go on for ever and resale values will still be propertional in years to come.

This question pops up again and again on the T5 forums and the answer is always the same. The 84/85 and 102/104 are identical engines and will both safely remap to approx 140 bhp and 330nm torque. The newer 2.0 TDI CR engines are identical in the 84/102/140 models but the lower bhp ones are detuned by the software only. The 84 and 102's with the 5 speed box will safely remap to 160bhp/350nm and the 140 with the stronger 6 speed box to 180bhp/390nm.

Just today i picked up my second used transporter. I had a 55 plate 85bhp with AC and electrics, its now at 221,000 miles and is still reliable. Today brings ne a 14 plate 102 Trendline with all the gadgets on it.
Immediately it feels more spritely and a joy to drive.

As a previous poster said, those that say its all hype haven't driven one. I for one would NEVER have anything else.

Merc Sprinter and VW Crafter look the same on the outside, body-wise.
Are the oily bits (drive-train) the same?

How big is the pipe? Could go with a pipe tube on a roof rack and get a caddy sized van?


I would also say a traffic is no bigger than a Transporter

I've an 07 Toyota Hiace from new, 92,000 miles and its been faultless. Just regular servicing and consumables.

Sadly when you come to replace it you will be offered a re badged citreon, peugeot, fiat. POS as toyota Europe think it will make more money than Importing the real thing from Japan..

In advance - I'm not a professional van driver, but every year I have to hire a couple of vans for work.

I just don't get the love for Transporters - they aren't bad vans, but others just seem much better.

Whenever I drive a Transit or Vivaro, it's always fun - but the Transporters just feel dull.

The Crafter that I last drove felt much smoother and refined than our usual Merc Sprinters .Our Sprinters are the lwb versions but have fairly low power engines .

I'm on my 3rd Peugeot Expert and other than the usual service and consumables they have been faultless. I do fancy a change and the Transit Custom looks the most likely but there is a new Expert/Dispatch etc due in the early summer and looks pretty good.

We had Experts as our company vans, they were really good with the old 2.0 110HDi engines, I really liked them but the body flex was shocking, every time you parked up the back doors had popped open. Also whet ever you do avoid the 1.6 HDi engine, probably the worst diesel on the road at the moment, very fragile and once they break you might as well throw them away. Any doubts about what I'm saying, try and find someone that will warranty a turbo replacement.

Yeah the 1.6 is a duffer, I've only had the 2.0(current one is 120bhp) reading about the new one the 1.6 stays as its euro 6 hopefully with some decent modifications.

Never had any issues with it flexing I don't carry any heavy loads in it though?

I'm due to change in September so hopefully will be able to check the new model out before then but still tempted by the custom as there are some decent lease deals with the limited spec.
