Has anyone done their Transport CPC through home study ?.

I'd look for some training classes. I did a fortnight with the FTA. It was invaluable.

Meaning to for ten years. Now that you can take the exams with your reference books on your desk Im more likely to actually do it.

So I was told by an acquaintance who is a CPC holder. I haven't investigated myself but I didnt consider it to be your typical 'RDC BS' (not that Ive ever been to a RDC).

As far as I know you can take any notes or reference books in you like. I think they are more interested in your interpretation of the rules rather than if you can remember them all.

My friend used to teach CPC and he reckoned home study candidates were much more likely to fail. Strongly suggest you attend a course if you can, just to give yourself a good chance of passing.

The reason I was looking at home study is I am working away from home at the minute and have a lot
of spare time on my hands. I am in the trade so it would be a feather in my cap as they say.

Only for the R2 written paper.

The R1 multiple choice paper isn't open book.

Having your notes for the R2 is useful but most important is knowing where in them to find the right information, bearing in mind the syllabus is pretty wide, plus if you can't get your head around it no amount of notes will help.

I was lucky and passed both papers first time, but plenty on my course didn't.

The cpc is not academically difficult, barely GCSE level at the very most. It's about cramming information and regurgitating it in the exam. If you're a disciplined learner then home study is fine, if you need motivating go on the course.

Its accepted that the part that everyone fails is equivalent to A Level in terms of difficulty.
