The van has been in the dealers for 16 weeks awaiting parts, aka new engine. I have a nice shiny new transit as a loaner, which is nice.

Today, two events. 1. New engine now arrived, so work will commence, and 2. The entire work will now be warranty rather than a 50% contribution, thanks to the recall.
Great result.
Turns out not so good news. The promised warranty cover has morphed to a 70% contribution as the engine fail was due to 'piston rings' rather than the recall. No more detail than that, the engineer concerned is ' on holiday'.

Still, the new engine is fitted and working, but cost the best part of £3000.

I'll need to know the actual cause of the failure before I'm placated.
Some follow up. The new engine was installed, along with a new clutch assembly, as the old one was worn, and it would be done for only the cost of the parts.

Trouble was, the cab stank of exhaust. You are imagining it, they said. A test drive convinced them.

Injector seals. Two trips.

Today, sudden clutch/transmission fail on the M5. I think the bloody thing is haunted.
Follow up. The dealer finally got round to looking at the problem today.

The new clutch had 'failed'. Not slipping, but broken. Will be replaced under warranty.

3,000 miles in the loan hybrid has left me unimpressed with it for my pattern of usage, mainly long journeys. Nice to drive, though.

Range on battery, 24 to 28 miles. Fuel consumption 26mpg on petrol. Mine averages 37mpg diesel.

The hybrid does seem a bit pointless. Surely a full electric must be on the cards.

The PSA/Toyota seems the only decent leccy van on the market.

The E-Transit BEV has a range of 166-196 miles, which for driving in Ulez is probably ok, but we won’t be seeing them bash up and down motorways with that sort of range.

I assume the new Transporter will be a variation on the E-Transit now that they are soon to be platform sharing?

Edit, apparently the E-Transit Custom has a slightly better range of up to 236 miles than the standard E-Transit.

Comedy pricing again I see though, £45k excl. VAT!

Obviously targeting the likes of Islington council first.

Anyone ordered/ordering a new Custom? Wondering what sort of discounts dealers are giving out at the moment. Pre-covid I was going to put an order in for a Sport, fully loaded factory order I could get one for £35k including VAT. Ended up renovating a house instead. Now a Sport with very few options seems to be nearing £50k according to the configurator and my local dealer is being less than helpful.... Certainly can't justify spending that on a van.

Vans now seem to be the new lifestyle vehicle and prices have shot up. I had Cars 2 Buy pop up in my timeline, a search has Transit Customs with circa 30% off list…….

I’m guessing most would lease these nowadays don’t want to get lumbered with an iffy battery in the future.

They can’t be any more iffy than the current Ford engines surely smile
Most batteries come with a 8 year ish warranty, so a much better warranty period than ice.

Anyone bought a Transit Custom recently? I’m still torn between another Traffic or whether to go for the Ford. I can see a few deals pre ordered but stock vehicles still look expensive.
I really like the thought of heated seats and the Quickclear windscreen would be a big winter plus point as I’m on the road early in the morning.

After too much indecision I’ve bought a TC Active. So far really impressed. I picked it up yesterday and got a nice run down from Fife to get used to it.

Having recently upgraded from a Kangoo to a Trafic, I was considering a Transit, but the insurance costs put me off. Quotes were coming back around 20% more vs a Trafic / Vivaro, (£2700 pa vs £3200 pa).

Sorry to hear that. Van security is a scandal in itself.

Was it deadbolted ie double clicked?

It’s time that theft of tools became a serious offence, preventing a man/woman from doing their jobs which pay for these thieving scumbags benefits really pisses me off.

We’ve had vans written off with peel and steal thefts and plod don’t care, just make a claim and here’s your crime number rolleyes

Yes but that wouldn't have stopped it, they know where to drill to pop the locks they done 3 Custom vans in a row all exactly the same method.

Nightmare I rarely have anything of value in the back of mines and with my business hopefully not a target. Never bothered fixing the spare wheel when that got nicked.
