We have a few at work, I've only been driving commercially for 8 months but in my opinion they are the worst truck on our fleet.
Uncomfortable seats, they bounce down the road compared to the DAF's we have. Gearbox is awful, other than for pulling of from a junction where it beats the DAF. Fuel consumption is crap over distance, not suited imo for multi drop in Buxton/Leek/High Peaks etc I think the DAF trucks we use do bets on the same run.
AFAIK the reason we use them is down to being able to load 500kg more than the equivalent DAF, I would personally rather a DAF, but it's not down to me.

People buy them because you can get a quart into a pint pot with the 7.5 tons , the bigger ones are good and Hino have been selling tipper chassis for years when I worked in NZ there were alsorts of japanese trucks including Nissan ud tractor units and a Mitsubishi unit with a huge V8 and six wheel ridgids with a massive gull wing door body...

maybe we would get the Mitsubishi Fuso super great tractor units if we Leave the EU I have an idea there are stiff EU tarifs on the bigger trucks , maybe we could get our truck building industry back if we were out of the eu!!!! we were once world leaders in commercial vehicles with Foden and ERF etc and had massive export markets.... williamp said:

Our local lease /hire co is using more and more Isuzu 7.5t trucks all Autos.
I have told the people that I drive for that I won't drive them again .
I am a big lump of 6ft 1 and find they cripple me ,the cab is so cramped and badly set out ,they bounce all over the road ,the seat is the worst thing that I have sat on since the 1970s ,in cross winds they are terrible.

Hinos aren't particularly nice. Overly sensitive knock-box 4o4s with a half gear where the range change switch is on a normal 4o4, long gearing and little go for the alleged 410bhp. Ridiculously over-sensitive brakes too, which fail to deliver when laden.
A used FM12 for the same money will always be a better bet.
