Why is that some HGV drivers ignor the ban on overtaking on some hills ? ie Gore hill at East ilsley A34.

Try the A9, you can spot it about to happen a mile off on the dually section going northbound. Big right hand sweeper that gets gradually steeper as you round the corner, supermarket tt with 5 horsepower in L1 doing about 8mph, over-enthusiastic local hauliage driver with chromed up rig decides to jump into L2 and gradually slow down to 30mph-ish before cresting the hill and coasting up passed 70. One better when they get halfway up the hill, realise they've ballsed up and abort their manuevre, indicating to push back into L1 and absolutely nobody lets them in meaning EVERYONE needs to slow down to whatever speed they stall out too.

Personally I blame the supermarket transport managers who decide to spec their 4x2's with bugger all power then send them to places like Scotland. Got to feel sorry for the drivers really. But you can't blame everyone else for trying to get past them. Instead of banning overtaking they should be mandating at least 10hp/ton on certain roads biggrin.

Lovely hill to have straight pipes on though... used to go up in my bosses 3.2 5 banger Ranger with straight pipes and 3-4ton trailer on the back.

Because it's never policed and a stupid idea. The one place where you will get vehicles doing less than 30mph yet 99% of trucks can sail past with no problem but they are forced to come to a near stop and trundle up the hill behind the slow moving vehicle.

Its not stupid idea when a fellow driver thinks he can go 1/2 a MPH faster and slows a dual carriage way for 3 miles and it should then be inforced I would also make it illegal to have limiters set at less than 85 KPH ......
