Personally, I'd start with one of these:

A Neoplan Jumbocruiser
Same bus after a refurb. Nice !

Looks more like a rebuild than a refurbished!

Even an axle has been moved!

Haha good point. The same company bought two and refurbed them. This is actually the one in the original pic. Looks pretty good for a 1986 bus.

iirc the white one is a 'pusher' and both decks are walk through, the dark one is a 'puller' and you can't walk through the hinged bit on the lower deck

Was eying up the 2015 Monaco range the other day - some great ideas you could use like underfloor heating, geni in the front (if its a pusher) and electric step cover.

It's always great having a big Bus/M/Home, the largest that we have had is just over 10 mtrs + 5mtr trailer which is great all the time that you are travelling and camping and using it but when you need to have a more permanent ng place that is when you get problems.
Since then have had 9 mtrs and a couple of 8 mtr Carthagos, which were more manageable for permanent parking, fine when you are using them for what they are meant for, but when you need to stop is the problem times.

Now down to just under 7 mtrs and easy for permant parking when not being used.
Having said all that there is a great buzz when you have a big bus and it can get you instant access to some places purely because they think you are a sponsor.
Keep your rubber on the roads people 😎

A pertinent question, but I have no intention of ever taking it to a campsite. The plans I have are for it to be self sufficient - and its main use will be for me to live in during the week (with my dog) to save myself from four hours of commuting every day.

Re the National express badge - it seems to be a later addition. It was owned by a firm called Black and White and then by Cheltenham and Gloucester, whose livery it still wears. I've seen photos of it in service, in that blue colour scheme, but without the badge.

Having said that, it is a Leyland Tiger with a Plaxton Paramount 3500 body which, I believe was used by National Express. Just not this one.
Any update on your new toy, Bruce? Or have you blown it up? ;-)

I love a good thread resurrection!

I've just bought this nippy little runaround for the express purpose of converting into a motorhome:

Another thread resurrection, interested to find out how the project went or did it bankrupt you?

The seller claims you can drive that on a normal driving license?? Surely that cannot be true?

Could well be, I looked into buying a Fire Engine and you can drive that on a std licence (and the 5th wheel trailer I had) because they aren't a HGV (no goods involved) nor are they PSV when in private use so they fall between categories.

Very high spec interior there, if not necessarily what you would want for a motorhome.

If a bus/coach (Class 5 as the add states) is over 30 years, driven no for high or reward, with 8 or less pax, then you can drive it on a car license as a vintage vehicle I believe. Doesn't have to be a pre-1997 ticket either afaik, just a Cat B 3500kg car. See below info leaflet.

In addition but not as appears to be the case here but might explain the 1997, if re-registered as a motorhome I believe the rules are slightly different, and people with a C1 (7500kg van/lorry as issued as standard to anyone pre 1997, then you can drive a motorhome of any weight. Or something like that. I've not looked or found the details of this from a reliable source.

INF52 - Large vehicles you can drive using your car or lorry licence

The seller can claim what they like, it's down to the buyer to make sure that they have the correct licence. Any motorhome over 7500kg GVW requires a C licence. No grey areas.

That is done to a lovely spec, but for a motor home I'd want more beds, and a seating/lounge area with some sound system and TV.

Oh yes, you'd have to change some things it's obviously been built as a hospitality type bus.

I think maybe add some colours other than white/orange too ?!

But it isn't a motorhome (currently)

The ad isn't very clear as to what exemption provides for driving it on a car licence.
The link provided by dhutch shows what vehicles are allowed, my comment was aimed at the reference about driving any motorhome over 7.5 tonnes on a car licence.
