Get a bit of instability when a HGV passes but apart from that goes quite well

Treated ourselves to a HiGear inflatable jobby for this year. It's just brilliant.

With a 5ft nothing wife and two kids running riot as soon as the car doors are opened, not having to sod about with poles is just what is needed. Takes two or three minutes to pump up and another 10 or so to peg it all out.

Only downside is the size of the bag it comes in is enormous. It's either roof box or trailer time.

An oldie, but a goodie hopefully. We've only had her 3 weeks, but we've redone most of the interior already.

Love seeing these told things still going. No matter how nasty they look inside or out (yours doesn't!) they always get me excited more than new stuff.

I have to ask though, why the "Try new things" and icky love writing on the inside? hurl

Nice. What lump have you got in the Tiguan?

For some reason I'm tempted by a V10 Tuareg at the moment.

In a couple of weeks we're off to Corsica with our Alfa and a new tent.

Previous years this was our gear (next year the MGB will ready to drive again).

During the spring and autumn we use our caravan & Volvo.

Our MSR Reflex tent (getting a bit old now) and the MX5 in Chamonix. We had a crowd come and watch us pack up because they simply didn't believe we could fit all our mountaineering gear and tent in the '5. It was pretty tight on the way home after my other half had a shopping spree in the town buying new rope and other bits of gear. Excuse the mess in the photo, we'd bivi'd the night before and got soaked in a massive storm so every bit of gear is out drying.

We've been marshalling a fair few fell races and Phil's been working away supervising expeditions all over the country so decided to splash out on a van. Introducing Mungo (the Bongo) Parks:

We're still getting used to the van and how to use it - and haven't used the cooker or the sink yet so may remove them to make more space for kit. 4wd, 2.5l auto diesel, full rear conversion and roof tent. Absolutely brilliant for the lanes around the Lakes and Wales being as narrow as a car and it makes me laugh like a drain when I'm driving it. Four of us spent New Year at Great Langdale in the van and it was as cosy as you like.

Good choice, i've also got a bongo.

Most reliable/useful vehicle i've had.

Have you got a low coolant alarm fitted?

Thanks Egor... not yet no. Although after the radiator emptied itself all over the M6 and the temperature rocketed, it really should be our next 'upgrade'!

That's not good, the heads are aluminium so are normally warped after they overheat.

I guess your on bongofury, mazda bongo owners on facebook is a good one too.

Re the conversion, most people just seem to use there's to boil the kettle and cook outside.

4x4 in these is pretty good, i've driven up pretty steep muddy/wet grass slopes to get out of fields, forget about being gentle though , lock it in low 2 floor it and point it straight wink

Luckily we spotted the temperature as it rose and pulled straight off and got a tow home.
  • fingers crossed*
Since replacing the radiator and coolant it's been fine, and has managed several long trips up to the Lakes and back to the Midlands since. I don't want it to happen again though!

This is our outfit - 2006 BMW 330d and 2012 Lunar Amberley (special edition based on the Quasar).

Just been away for our first couple of nights in it. Enjoyable apart from the dealer giving us some form of filter attachment rather than a pump for the water (good job my parents didn't live too far away and could bring their pump for us to borrow) and the crap weather making things "challenging" with our 20 month old son when cooped up indoors - I'm hoping when the good weather comes and he can be released outdoors it will make life easier!
