I use a Terrain Rooftent, budget was in consideration against the Howling Moon, and its stood up well. 3 year old, warm enough in -16 with snow, its great. My friend has just purchased a Maggie to go alongside his Terrain, thats a new world altogether!

Zelda Pinwheel,

Are you still using a MyWay tent? I am interested in the Evolution. You mentioned you switched for you trip to Iceland. Do you think the high winds would have damaged the Evolution?

I like how light and compact the Evolution is. Sadly there are no importers of MyWay in the US, so it will be a direct ship from South Africa. When you pay that kind of shipping it is best to do a bit of homework.
Hi - sorry, only just seen this. yes, we still have the MyWay, and still very much fans.

I don't believe the wind would have damaged it - it had stood up to some pretty intense wind in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The main reason for switching was to keep out some of the light - as we were in Iceland in July/August, the 23hrs of daylight would have been a problem in a lighter weight tent - the heavier canvas of the Serengeti kept it a bit darker overnight, and kept more of the wind out although 6' up on top of a Land Rover in 60+mph winds, nobody's sleeping anyway.

If you've not already done so, it'd be worth having a chat with the UK importer, Paul Stevenson - he's a very friendly chap and will be more than happy to talk it over with you.

When my wife and I were designing our 110 Defender camper for long distance/duration camping we obviously looked long and hard into the different types of tents. The piece of advice which clinched it for us was from BOAB, the guy said after a long day driving the Maggiolina is so easy to put up and after a couple of months travelling (we were planning a 6 to 9 month trip) the palaver of folding away a tent style roof tent would soon annoy you.

We bought a Maggiolina Safari. We replaced the mattress with a memory foam one, fitted some internal storage pockets and a LED light and it is the PERFECT roof tent for us. It sleeps me ,my wife and our daughter (4 yrs old at the time) in absolute comfort.

We have a very comfortable mattress, a duna and proper pillows - it is more comfortable than many beds I've slept in. We also fitted a solar cover as we were travelling across Australia. It has withstood massive storms in England and Australia and served us well in our 6 month trip from Fremantle to Dubbo. Halfway through the trip we bought a 12V fan to help keep us cool!

The only downside to the Maggiolina is that it is only a bedroom, shoes have to be left outside. Other than that is brilliant - you pull into a rest area and in a few minutes you can be sleeping in a proper bed, and getting a good nights kip when travelling is great.

Here's a link to my Flickr site- I'm still uploading the trip photos but there's loads there already

The Maggiolina was expensive but worth every penny.

It does take a bit of practice but I reckon our Howling Moon tent was up or down in under two minutes.
