I've got a Sterling Eccles Amethyst 90th Aniversary Edition to give it it's full moniker. Struggling to find anything remotely amusing about it to be honest!

confused

And we have a California.

Sadly (although its actually brilliant) it's the VW, not the Ferrari one!

I think you need to change it for a Mega Death Monster Eater - clearly this hasn't been made yet, but it can't be long before it is smile

Hymers Tramp range is always a good one for the aspirational camper!

We were LMC dealers, try selling a £40000 motorhome thats model name is Basic!

Ours is apparently a Nomad, made by Dethleff, and I join The Surveyor in the overtaking brigade, mind you on dual carriageways and motorways a lot of people get upset when overtaken by a caravan.

And gives a whole new frame of reference to side draughts when overtaking trucks!

£40,000 plus the fuel to move it, the parking of it, and the cleaning etc., make it a VERY expensive alternative to a good hotel or guest house!weeping

I notice an increasing number are towing small cars behind too, so that the owners can get about without having to take a small bungalow into small towns and villages! laugh

That would offend me. Not been overtaken by any camper or motorhome yet and especially not a car towing a caravan... ;-)

I take great delight in overtaking with my 'van in tow. My favourite one was the Prius on the A9. I swear he was trying to use battery only. hehe

So do I - funny you should mention Prius. The majority of what I call "Save the planet" types are in Priuses. They crawl along at 52.5 mph, annoying the f**k out of those of us who like to make progress, including me my car and caravan, and my lad and others in HGVs. I ensure that I do not start any elephant races, but as soon as there is enough leeway behind me, I am out and gone. I do get some funny looks but sod 'em. They deffo do NOT like being overtaken by a car pulling a caravan, that's for sure. Tuff.

I considered a motorhome before I bought our caravan, but the impracticalities outweighed the 'cool factor'.

I mean, wihout a small car in tow, if you get to your destination, set up, then find you've forgotten to buy ketchup you have to tear the whole lot down to drive into town in the hope you can find a space big enough to deposit the thing while you replenish your larder.

Of course a couple of mopeds might address the issue but SWMBO can barely ride a pushbike and aren't really suitable for children under 10yo. Then there's more insuratnce/road tax/etc for the other vehicles and the legalities of towing a car on one of those 'A' frames.

While universally derided, caravans make much more sense even if their names are a little on the ridiculous side.

When I was a nipper back in the early 70's, my Dad borrowed a friends caravan to take me and my little bruv on a holiday to Devon. My Dad had a Merc 280SE at the time, big old bus, full webasto roof, fantastic, and drove it like he stole it everywhere. I laughed my head off when he was towing this caravan on the M5 in the outside lane at about 90 and wondering why he was getting funny looks. It was his 1st time towing a caravan and didn't know any different. He found out he wasn't supposed to go into lane 3 when someone on the site we were on recognised the Merc having been overtaken by it earlier that day. Didn't stop him on the way home though. I gave the thumbs up last weekend to a guy in a VW 4x4 towing his largeish caravan at 80 on the A14,top man.

beer

Good post! I don't tow our caravan at 90 but admit that I have occasionally strayed over the 60.... wink
But I used to tow a small trailer when dispatching with a Honda Revere - the trailer was a Freewheel one, great for taking large packages. Boy did that outfit move to the annoyance of many a car driver especially as I could whizz through London traffic - 'cat's whisker' principle - if the mirrors go through so will the trailer rofl
