Happy chappy. That whole outfit currently owes me less than £600! Not a bad start!
Great idea. They should issue them as standard with new Renaults really - now you can cook your dinner, relax on the sofa and generally take it easy whilst you wait for the AA to arrive.

How very true!! Fingers crossed, its done 14k in my ownership so far, and needed nothing but tyres!! She is a strong ol gal, having said that, the previous owner put nearly everything right in 100k

Well, car and caravan are packed, everything is ready. All I have to do now is 8-1 at work tomorrow, and I'm off. I can't bloody wait, maiden voyage, straight to the continent!

Well I got home around 7pm this evening, managed to somehow swing it into position outside mine (its not easy I tell thee), unpacked, cleaned it, and back to work with it tomorrow, into storage again. But an amazing time away, ill post some details Sunday afternoon

Well, a little gallery;

Leaving the overnight Campsite heading for Dover Port

Arrival on site, first things first, porch (This hasnt been used in 14 years, my first attempt at putting one up alone

Mine up, Gazebo up, time for a beer, the others were still struggling!!

Plenty of alcohol was consumed, and good food eaten (My van was the social van, the largest of our outfits)

Bloody early 5am start for Amsterdam - one of the only pictures showing both outfits

Load the boot up ready to come home

Sitting steady

One hell of a week away. The caravan was perfect, nothing reared its ugly head, and considering the price, the fact we didnt try a night first, didnt try the awning, or plug it into mains, I think I was damn lucky. And the trust 200k+ scenic towed it like it was a box trailer, superb!

Looks good, LouD!

I spent yesterday afternoon giving our 'van a good clean - it was pretty filthy after 5 months of doing nothing.

Definitely getting a cover for it before next winter!

Took into our local dealership for a few warranty items and for its service.

Hopefully pick it up next week and have a few nights away somewhere! Can't wait!

Nice, always good to have a clean up. Ive had to put mine into temp storage, and the outside got filthy on the way up the track. Before i'm away next, I must get it home and clean it again.

Where you hoping to go? Ive got a long weekend at Easter booked, and then off to Belgium again in December. Holland has been booked for next year for a week too, towing with the Series though, Landrover Rally eek

Well, we're booked up for Devon and Cornwall in July and August.

But before that we'll do a few weekends to check it all works and give the awning a test.

Just somewhere local so Sussex/Kent area.

Oh st, im 27! So a bit younger than you guys. But I think as long as you enjoy it, age is irrellevant!
At 27 on a standard license you are limited to towing weight of 750kg IIRC. I think there is a fairly straight forward test to get you up to bigger weight.

I've just been looking at caravans on Ebay. I'm quite surprised by how cheap they are. I grew up going on holiday with my parents in their motorcaravan. I know its not the same thing, but it was great fun smile

3500kgs train weight. Any higher than that then It's B+E license time!

Test isn't that straight forward though. Recommend training from an hgv trainer prior to the test.

I passed the test back when I was 18. The parents paid so I could tow their caravan. Subsequently, I now have my HGV, so its not really a problem.

With my new (very old) Series 3 Landrover I bought a few months ago, and the RR, Im looking at selling up, and getting something a lot larger. I have been looking, and going to view one today, a 6 berth twin axle Avondale. Its tempting for the price, lets see what its like when I get there.

Take a damp meter dude, the Avondales really went to pot before they went bust and a lot of them were riddled with damp.

Hopefully it's a goodun'!

Went and had a look. To be honest, very dry, however, appears someone doesnt like to clean. I don't mind cleaning, but it was too far gone, especially for the money.

So, let the hunt continue!

Just fro clarity, your wrong.

See SP&L for a sticky, but A very cut down summary is you should be ok, providing the gross train weight does not exceed 3,500 kg

The way I read it:

Option A
As long as the car is heavier than the caravan, then you can have any combination up to a combined 3500kg.

Option B
You can drive any car you like up to 3500kg but can then only tow a maximum of 750kg

Option C
If neither of the above apply (so either you exceed the 3500 combined or you want to pull more than 750kg) then you need to take the test.

I'm Option C - as my car and caravan combination come to around 4150kg.

A lot of people will get in on Option A.

You missed out Option D.
