Probably a bit of a dull topic - but heck, it's hard to think of an original topic in GG these days - so dull or not, after a search I can't find a similar topic - so here it is, like it or not!!!

I was out driving round with a fellow petrolhead the other day, and when we're out, we always have a laugh about some of the names that manufacturers call their caravans.

As we all know, they are ridiculous, ponderous and just silly things, caravans - with a reputation for having a certain type of enthusiast, but the reality being that they get in the way, and hold up miles and miles of traffic. However, ironically - they often have model names which are at complete odds with their real presence on our roads. Names which sound fast, exciting and cutting-edge...And my friend and I appreciate and recognise the irony in that.

So - to start the ball rolling, I have seen caravan models called:

Buccaneer,
Pursuit,
Laser,
Crusader,
Rallye,
Quasar,
Stellar,
Conquerer,
Challenger Sport,

Etc. etc...

So, anyone else a little bored, have any caravan names that ace any of these?

If not, and you fall asleep before posting, no worries, I understand biggrin

Not a caravan but the name on the back of a Gold Wing trike we followed a few days ago was 'Bermuda' and written above was 'It's a Kind of Magic!' - it wasn't, not at 45mph.

There is indeed, based in Cottingham, near Hull.

Amuse yourselves for hours during long motorway trips by adding 'anal' before caravan names you spot (it doesn't work for all names, but a decent majority).

Childish? Perhaps.
Funny? Of course!

Swift models include the 'Charisma'.
Elddis had the 'Hurricane'
Also the 'Avante' which apparently translates from the Latin as 'progress, go forward or in front'. I can understand the 'in front' bit as they're often at the front of a queue!
Buccaneer 'Clipper'. IIRC 'clippers' were fast sailing ships...

Elddis have it sewn up I think with the wind ones, whirlwind, hurricane, super cyclone!

Their Sister brand Buccaneer do well to with Schooner, cruiser, brigand etc

I sell Motorhomes at a large caravan dealer, we were deciding on a name for our Elddis dealer special so I suggested the Lotus back catalogue
Ie Elddis Elite, Elan, Excel, maybe not Eclat.

They picked Supreme, which sounds more like a Chicken dish to me!

He used to do Caravan racing back in the day didn't he?

Don't think they own Swift anymore, think they're management owned these days.

I really ought to have known that given how frequently I work in Cottingham! wobble

In fact, Hull must be the shed-dragging fatherland, because there's a place manufacturing static sheds down Hedon Road!

Saw a Craftsman 154 'le miracle' that had seen better days. 'Le miracle' presumably refers to the likelihood of its roadworthiness.

Hull and the northeast is the capital, someone told me it's because the wood comes in to Hull from Scandinavia but who knows?

Swift, Coachman and Auto trail are all Hull ish based, then Elddis is just over in Consett.

There is/was a few plants making 'vans of various types and sizes in and around the Hull area, I did my school work experience placement at Swift Caravans, 15 years ago (yikes how time flies). Sadly for the area the industry has suffered a slump over the past decade one of the two sections of the Cottingham plant is now a housing estate (still being built).

Peter Smith still owns the majority holding, the management bought around 40%.
