Im looking for suggestions for a 2/3 man tent for occasional weekend use next year with my 8yr old son. Main priorities are...

Waterproof
Quick & simple to erect on my own
Built in groundsheet

Weight isn't an issue as I won't be carrying it on my back. Im considering the Vango Tempest 200/300 or perhaps Robens Voyager 3EX, but happy to consider other brands. Budget not too important, but hoping to get a deal now its winter.

Thanks

For what it's worth, I'd go for a taller tent that enables you to stand up in it. Go Outdoors has a Vango Eos 550 XL for £160 at the mo. Their Hi Gear range is also pretty good, but if you go for the Gobi, note it ideally needs 2 people to put it up.

For campsite use I agree with the poster above, being able to stand up is the way ahead - and something by Vango will be a safe bet. Depending on budget I'd go so far as to suggest one of their airbeam tents for convenience if it's just you setting up. If however you want something smaller have a look at the Vango Banshee 200 or 300 - the former is regularly used by budget constrained wild campers halfway up a mountain, so it'll survive quite happily lower down.

Have a look at Decathlon's range of pop up tents.
I have a simple 3 man and a bigger 4 man with porch. They have built in led lights which is good for the kids as it is more dispersed light than a torch.
Vangos have always been good but pricey imho

Lol, my £500 Kampa is considered cheap by some of the glampers on UKCS. £1000 plus is common for higher end tents. £300-500 is about mid-range. Vango do the budget-mid range well with respectable quality, the odd premium one like the Eden are the exception rather than the rule.

Their pop up tents do look good. I guess the only negative is that they couldn't be carried with me on my motorbike if ever I decided to (I realise I never mentioned motorbikes). But I do now accept that the ability to stand, or at least comfortably sit up would be good advantage.

Another vote for one of these. Have one of these from Decathlon also.

And i'm sure you could get it on a motorbike. Just attach it to a rucksack with some bungee type cables.

I wouldn't much want to carry any cheapish 2/3 man tent on a bike tbh. They're Sodding heavy.

A bike you say? You'll be wanting the Vango Turini 2-man touring tent at £200 with an extra 10% off....

The Banshee 200 is 2.1kg if you're looking for a lighter one. Hence why it's a budget backpackers favourite. Or there's the 1.6kg Zephryos 2 which would be my choice, provided you know your second person well.

The turini is a good option if you want the bike in it. The Banshees are great but pretty small, with any gear in it they'd be pretty cramped, especially if its wet. Maybe look at Vango EOS 350, decent bedroom space for 2 but with some lounge space for bags etc. Still folds up pretty small.

For two people, you really want a 3 man tent.

That Turini looks awesome!

I've been looking for something exactly like that...but ideally 3 man so SWMBO can fit her rubbish in it when camping

know of a 3 man version?

EDIT: they do the Turini in green and call it a stelvio, cheaper

We also have a 5 man Outlast tent for more comfortable camping with carpet, fridge and kitchen which takes a 6 man table and chairs and I can stand up in. Doesn't really meet the OPs requirements though.

I was trying to nicely disagree and say that Vango aren't pricey, they're budget. Good budget, but not - IMO - pricey.

My weekend tent is the Coleman InstantTourer. Goes up and down in a couple of minutes and you can stand up in it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. After further thought, I've decided jep was right in his suggestion, I'd benefit from a tent that I can standup in. Being able to stand and change into/out of my bike gear would be useful. Some of the tents suggested so far do look good;

Vango EOS 550XL
Coleman Instant Tourer
Coleman Dome 5
Coleman Coastline 4 Deluxe

The few I've found are only c1.6m, is there another version that's more like 2m?

The OP is asking for a two thirds of a man tent, so 1.6m should be plenty tall
