Booked in the caravan for it's annual service, going to try a mobile guy that's pretty local. He gets decent reviews.

£200 and he isn't tax registered so no VAT.

Just contemplating our outings for the year, and what to book. However rather put off by the experiences of others here who all seem to have had problems on their first outing of the year, This can be solved by not having a first outing!

Ive decided that I don't like the side bunk layout in my Avondale. So its going up for Sale this weekend. However, I am off tonight, cash in hand to look at a Lunar Lexon EW, huge ol thing, with a fixed bed, end washroom layout. Will do the job much better. Damp metre is in the car, 2 hour roadtrip from work! Fingers crossed!

I'm looking forward to the kids getting a bit bigger - I really want something like a SuperCyclone with twin beds rather than bunks so that I can use it more with mates for weekends away (the bunks are quite short and have 70kg limits).

Something like this:

Sodding fking bd weather. I've been looking forward to this coming weekend for ages. I'd booked an extra two days off too, and incurred the wrath of my kids' schools to take them out for those two days. But now it's going to be cold and wet, there's no way my wife will want to go - it was not an easy "sell" to her anyway.

All my plans and all those weeks looking forward to this weekend... frown

I know the type your on about Rosscow, nice vans. Well its normally me and the other half, her ex husband has the kids at weekends, but I want the flexibility to take them with us at times, I enjoy their company too.

Watchman, its my Bday friday, and I'm off in the new (I hope) van. Come rain or shine, it doesn't stop me vanning!

Happy birthday party

If it was just me, I'd go anyway but my wife isn't keen on any form of camping - caravans too. I took the kids and left her at home over Easter but I don't want to do that again. I really hoped we could have a nice few days away, as the weather had been so lovely recently. Now, I doubt we'll stay more than a single night. frown

We've parked the van up and paid for the site until October. I think next year we'll keep it more mobile but that does have a serious impact on the awning "issue". We will be less likely to set it up if we're mobile. It's such a faff.

Ah. You're one of those caravanner's hehe

In fairness, I won a porch awning off eBay last year for £30 (local collection). It's all you need for a long weekend - it's big enough for putting outside furniture in when you're not using it and you can keep all your shoes and wet coats in it.

I only bother to put our main awning up if we're staying at the same site for at least a week.

One of those air beam ones may be a future purchase however.....

This is one of the reasons I'm not keen on the idea of having a seasonal pitch - there are so many decent places to see and if the weather in Wales is crap, you're stuck!

First year, this year. Seemed like a good idea at the time but having towed it to the site, and actually enjoyed the experience (my car's perfect for towing a large van), we all agreed the UK was too big to be stuck in one place. Also, we just don't use it enough to justify £3500/year site fees and at the moment, and those fees were paid entirely by one person.

From next year, we will probably use it properly. As a family we used to go all over the UK with our van but we have had 25 years off.

I reckon a porch awning would make it an easy and obvious solution for weekends away.

Porch or Tunnel awning would suit. I'm using my 5m Tunnel this weekend whilst I'm away. Its only 3 nights, and the weather is hit and miss. Full Canvas one goes up for weeks, although its only 35 mins on my todd to errect the bugger. Well lube'd awning rails are whats key!

Off to the Vendee region of France for a fortnight in July with my wife (it's our Honeymoon) to stay at a site called Camping Bel, Driving North Yorkshire to Portsmouth, sailing Portsmouth to St Malo.

It'll be my first proper caravan trip, I've caravanned before but never with my own van. The Mrs knows this site well having been on many family holidays in the past and we bought the van off her aunt and uncle who visit this site most years. dragging it down with my 1993 4Runner. Ambitious? Moi?

Youll be absolutely fine. I did similar, first trip in my first van was to belgium. It was there I discovered half of it didn't work! At least you know your buying a good one.

Well this years Caravanning, well, to say its grown is to say the least. I left work at 5, just in the door now, but a rather happy chappy, especially for what I paid!
