Getting a quote from a builder to do some work on an outbuilding that I use as garage (35 feet by 24 feet - former dairy / milking parlour). At the moment it has a doorway in one end that is fairly standard height so not tall enough to get a caravan in but wondering about asking extra cost of making it taller to be able to do so. there would be space to hold caravan and a couple of cars and still have lots of storage

I don't want to get it sorted for the current caravan and then discover a later one won't fit in cos it's a bit taller. Is there a standard caravan height?

Caravans are getting progressively taller. A colleague had his drive lowered to accommodate his last van having been able to put them in the garage for 30+ years prior.

I was thinking the same, and that there is every chance that they will get taller, wouldnt be surprised to see air conditioning in them before long, that will add 6 inches or so to the height etc

I drove past a caravan place last night, they all looked the same height but some had the TV aerial on so that made it about 20 cm taller.

2.67M (tad less than 9ft) is the average for a swift caravan inc aerial

If you're going to the time, trouble and expense of changing the door, why not go the whole hog and go to 12 ft - certain then of having plenty of clearance. smile

Think I'd struggle to get that anywhere near the garage door, let alone through it!

Don't want 12' that's a bit OTT- better get my tape measure out!

Sorry to go off topic but do you have trouble with sites allowing you on? my Dad was looking at getting a non 5th wheel setup bit couldn't get the nose weight to work. Just curious though.

We'll find out soon, only just bought it, we've done a fair bit of homework though & it just means you have to plan ahead a bit more than we did with our twin axle.
