Im going to take the towbar off my motorhome but could someone advise regarding the electrics?

Is it just a question of disconnecting them from the towbar and tying them up out of the way; or do they need to be fully removed from the circuit?

If the latter is this a diy jobbie or garage/auto-electrician type thing?

Cheers smile

I'd leave it all attached and just tuck it up out of the way with cable ties somewhere.
Some day you may want the towbar back on, or sell it to someone who does.

Thanks - that was what I was going to do yes

Do you know how the electrics are connected to the towbar? Is it a plug and socket or hard wired generally? (I haven't got my MH with me to check)

could be either

it's often a bunch of wires spliced into the rear lights
but some towbars for modern mass production cars come with plus that go between the car's loom and the light cluster

it's possible also that your vehicle was built with the towbar in mind and the electrics could be part of the main loom.

Depends on the age and model of your motorhome, most modern vehicles with canbus wiring come with multi plugs to fit dedicated towing packs which can be quite expensive. Fitting a towbar and electrics to a modern vehicle can cost from£500 upto £1500 and possibly more.

Hi everyone. A quick question, I have just removed the tow bar from my sharan (2013), and now there is an error showing on the screen, so wondering if anyone knows how can that be cleared? Thanks.

I was told the wiring is coded to the car, and it cannot easily be removed. Thus I left the bar on my last car.
I would assume, it would need to be coded out somehow?
