Bloke at work today told me that if you are if a motorhome or caravan and start the day at sea level, then drive to where its several thousand feet later in the day. To make sure you have the on board toilet lid down, as when you next use it flush it first with nothing in it, as with the pressure difference due to height causes what's I n the bowl goes all over the walls, true or not ?

eh ? what the feck do you think a flush does ? all it does is squirt a bit of water around and opens a trap door so the waste can drop in to the tank below.

I can't see how any pressure would be built up in the system.

It is of course true; that is why I restrict my caravanning to East Anglia wink

The trapdoor does seal - to keep whiffs in the tank - so, yes, I gather it's not a totally unknown phenomenon. But it'd need to be an altitude change almost impossible in Europe...

I thought it was if you left a 'log' in the bowl and change altitude. The barometric changes can cause larger logs to actually explode.
Generally this can be prevented by 'breaking the back' of particularly long turds using a sharp knife.

I have a very small car, although it's very economical, it's not as efficient as a larger car because it has to travel further to do a mile.

The Thetford manual in our motorhome states, if traveling in areas with large changes in altitude to leave the blade in the loo open for just this reason!

The bottom of page 4 of this link should tell you all you need to know:

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/caravanclubapps/media...

There; today has been worthwhile after all. Provided the link works. And answers your question.

Peace of mind I'm sure, especially if you have elderly relatives on board.

Sainsbury's chocolate bars can go to Mexico and play football on the rooftop - is this what we're on about?

Well if ever there was an advert for staying in a hotel it's this! Actually, no it's the fact that caravaners even know this stuff! Buy a caravan and not only do you get the joy of emptying your st you also have the fun of being able to poke it around with a knife, a knife you will later be using to spread butter on your toast no doubt. fking caravanning is clearly for the clinically insane, mental the lot of them!

I'd hate to see a pound of mashed-up Dundee cake all over the walls.

It's true. The cassette is sealed so pressure builds up as you go higher.
So can depressurise violently when opened.

Indeed, the principle is right, but surely you'd have to drive your caravan to the summit of Everest for even a possibility of this happening.....................They don't do they ??
