Teardrop Campers

We already have a Mazda Bongo camper, but the downstairs bed (basically the chairs folded flat) is really uncomfortable. Looked into rock & roll type seats but they were coming in quite expensive.
For the same price a a rock & roll seat arrangement we figured we MAY be able to get a small teardrop camper. Then I stumbled across SL Industries, who started building teardrops late last year & were selling one on Ebay, I made them an offer of £1500, which much to my surprise they accepted.
The teardrop is just a fairly basic, uninsulated sleeping pod as supplied.
I'm insulating it with 25mm Celotex bonded to the aluminium skin, then covered in 5mm bendy ply wood, which will be face in camper van carpet, in grey & black. Needs the final panel bonding in, then the ply will go in.
The insulation needed slotting with a Stanley to enable it to take the internal shape of the skin.
I'm also carpeting the floor with some pretty cheap black carpet tiles.
Going to replace the drop down support leg with a pair of proper wind down legs too.

Managed a little more progress last night.
There are some unsightly bolts holding the mudguards on, so these had to be covered as in my opinion they look sore.
Off the B&Q to buy some very small height skirting, routed out two slots to clear the bolt tails, job done.
The skirting will be covered in camper van lining carpet one the ceiling panels are in once I'm 100% happy with the fit.

At the end of the day, with the double duvet, memory foam mattress in there I think we'll be toasty, it's never going to get used in the depth of winter.

I really like these. Tempted to get one to tow behind the discovery for my weekends when I'm offroading. An easier solution to pitch up and leave, rather than using my rooftent on low lanes.
Do they tow well?
No problems behind the XF on Saturday, never even knew it was there, it only weighs in at 253kg. Keen to add as little weight as possible too, whilst making it as comfortable as reasonable. The largest weigh added will be the mattress.Do they tow well?

Well worth thinking about. I doubt I would see it behind the discovery (its a bit tall) and I doubt I would feel it either at that weight. Let me know once youve had a night in it, I could be very very tempted. Ill watch this threadSpuffington said:

Managed to get the lining complete over the weekend. Bendy ply on the ceiling & inside the front storage cubbys, covered with camper lining carpet.
Cheap black carpet tiles on the floor. Carpet covered skirting down the sides to tidy up a couple od exposed fasteners.
Covered the bulkhead too.
