5 berth+ for self drive to France, ideally based SE England, with a bike rack or towbar. Diesel.

2016, collect Sat June 25 - return Mon July 4, so outside of Le Mans, will be light use by mature cycling gentlemen, we won't trash it (or probably even sleep in it)

Anyone hire theirs out or can recommend an independent hirer?

Hired a m/h through these people three/four years ago.

http://www.motorholme.co.uk/motorhomes/range.htm

They act as agent for owners though they don't make that clear until you've booked, they gave the impression that they own all the m/h's they hire out. Reality is once you've booked and paid they then put you in touch with the owner and you both sort out where and when to collect it. For me it worked OK, we drove to the chaps house and left our car on his drive for the duration and he explained everything to us. Nice m/h in good condition. He'd rented it out a lot and it was well cared for. He did say the company took a hefty percentage, sort of around 30-50% IIRC and he was going to set up a website and do it himself.

He also said that he gets a lot of rentals by folks just knocking on his door and doing a deal direct. Reckons most m/h owners rent that way. After hiring for a week we decided a m/h wasn't for us so bought a caravan but if I ever fancied hiring again I'd either try the knocking on doors bit or make up a leaflet and post it through doors.

I use Ricky at these before...

Good outfit; great service; good safe parking for your car while you are away; handy for the channel ports

Highly recommended smile

I was very pleased with these people:

They were slightly dearer than some other firms I looked at but they happened to be near where I live and there was a degree of comfort in using a big firm rather than hiring some family's pride and joy.

Thanks for the replies. 10 days hire is coming out well over a grand which is ludicrous imo.

If we pick one up in Holland on the way down it's more like £5-600 which is what I expected.

ETA There's quite a few owner operators on ebay, going to message some of the nearer ones.

Really? You want a van for possibly the busiest weekend for rental in the UK of the year - Glastonbury - so of course it is not going to be cheap. My local dealer had over 1300 enquiries for rental for a fleet of 4 vans for that weekend....

Yeah, didn't realise it was that weekend. Anyway will most likely try and avoid the Glastonbury tax and pick one up in NL.
