On the reversing thing - a camera will help but also rear reversing sensors too. I have had them fitted to both my MH's and they are a great help

Thought I should update the thread, so last year was really spent getting to know the van and how it works, what needs to be done and day trips out to the new forest, beach etc to give it a run out and get familiar. Last overnight stay in 2016 was October at Setthorns New forest.

What needed to be done? Not a lot really, everything just works as it is meant to, no funny noises, nothing. We put a new vehicle battery on it in December as it was a few years old and gave up one weekend. Swapped that over and all ok.
Oh, yes I remember, after the drain down and re-fill of boiler the taps didn't want to produce water or very sporadic flow.
So after taking the water pump out, checking that was ok and getting soaked in the process, it turned out that the tap was simply bunged up with don't know what but taking the tap off, cleaning out and replacing sorted that out. So touch wood, that is the extent of it.

Things I would like to do it is a bit more lengthy, I really need to get the sound system sorted, the speakers I presume are original 1995 items are useless, the CD player doesn't actually play cd's and th radio reception is awful. I want to get new speakers, better head unit and link that to the leisure battery. Perhaps install a tv for the youngest on those rainy nights in the van, and probably sort a few more led lights out.

Trouble is I don't have a lot of mechanical or electrical know how and neither do I have the time to really spend working these things out, I guess I just need to get on with it.

Anyway, we have had a few weekends away in the new forest and in Wiltshire as well which were good fun.
I am glad I went for it and spent the money to do it. If anyone is thinking about it it is worth doing it, just go in with your eyes open. Re the 1st photo, yes we have a blue badge.

Glad it's gone well for you ET. I know it was a big leap of faith (it is for all of us) but nice to know it's paid off.

Plenty of years, life and fun left in that Hymer. Although I've had my fair share of age-related issues, the thing I'm beginning to learn is that they're not that difficult to work on and I'm beginning to do my own repairs and mods where necessary, which in itself is quite rewarding.

As regards the stereo - I've got the same issue. A couple of the speaker cones are damaged and the headunit is old with not very good reception. I don't really have the confidence to attack it on my own and not the cash to have someone else do it. For the moment I am using a Bose bluetooth speaker linked to my iPhone whilst on the move and static. Works reasonably well.

Wish you all the best with it going forward! smile

Thought i should update this as it is exactly 1 year with out Hymer!

(i've changed my user name as well)

So a year on and i am still glad we have done it and we have got to know it very well. We have got into a routine with picking it up from storage, dropping off, where to put things and how it works.
Kids have their own storage spaces, cupboards full of food and drink, books, games, magazines all tucked away and ready to go.
We've been all around the New Forest, Wiltshire, Dorset, Cornwall this year. Next year we are of into France for two weeks, so that will be good.
I've sorted out the sound system with proper speakers and new head unit, bought a t.v for those wet evenings which was money well spent. New vehicle battery is all it has really needed, although MOT and major service tomorrow, so fingers crossed.
Last weekend was Hymerfest 2017 near Longleat, a fantastic weekend with some great hymers and great people.
Would I change it? Probably not, it does everything we want it to do, is very reliable and has all the good upgrades, solar, air suspension, led lights etc.
Hopefully tomorrow will be good news with the MOT.
