These are cheaper, but you could have issues if you breakdown while on holiday rather than on the way there or back....

Red Pennant looks eye wateringly expensive.

Red Pennant is £109 for car and caravan (or £163 for the 'Plus' cover)

Annoyingly, my AA cover will only cover caravans up to 7m long.

Meant to say they have no Length, Weight, Height or Width restrictions.

Although they do seem restricted to the western part of Europe - ie not in Croatia, Czecerslakia (Sp), Poland, Romania etc

Thanks, got cover for a year for £285. That includes a loading of £105 due to vehicle age.

That's not bad, my price was single trip (already got AA cover in the UK, which annoyingly doesn't have the 7m length restriction that their European cover has!).

They do indeed have that restriction on their consumer offer. Red Pennant is different and doesn't have any limits.

Not on their 'Arrival' plan they don't. I've used it for years in the UK and only yesterday extended it to European cover.

Yes - you are right. But Arrival is only available to C&CC members. The RAC standard breakdown cover available to non-members of C&CC/CC has limits such as height 3m and length 7m making it unsuitable for a good number of mhs.

At the moment you can join direct I believe and they give you C&CC club membership - if I read it correctly.

I was only interested yesterday in extending my UK cover to European.

Guys - I was about to purchase breakdown cover for next week through Red Pennant, but then remembered as I am a Nationwide Flex Plus current account holder I actually get European breakdown cover for free.

A quick phone call and they will cover caravans up to 8m long, 3m wide and 3.5 tons in weight.

Happy days! Along with their world wide travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, 3% in credit interest, etc. it's a worthwhile account to have.

I've been a member of the RAC for yonks so looked to upgrade my membership to cover our motorhome (6.5ml x 2.2mw) when we go to France in a couple of weeks. No worries, £98 extra for the year. To get cover in the UK they recommended joining the C&CC, which we did for £37. Went back to RAC to upgrade coverage further to include UK under their C&CC scheme to be told it would be about £85 (not extra, but instead of the £98 for just European cover) and would include full UK and European coverage with no restrictions on the size of motorhome. All arranged in a couple of hours for about £120 on top of my normal membership (about £75).

If the GVW isn't over 3.5 ton, that would be covered under the flex plus Nationwide account.

It's worth switching current account for!

RAC. Arrival (caravan and camping club)
Is the most comprehensive cover, did the research including google translate of the ADAC ts&cs for our 13 year old 8.2m 5t Burstner 747

The standard RAC European ts&cs have restrictions on weight and age on them. The Arrival addendum waves these, and it's cheaper if you go the the caravan and camping club to buy than if you go straight to the RAC site
