Had an excellent time with the kids at 'Scarefest' (Alton Towers) last weekend.

Stayed at the C&CC site at Alton (The Star). It was OK, not the best site we've stayed at.

We asked for a hard standing pitch (thankfully!) but it was quite small, and very tight to get on and off of.

Time to clean up the old 'van and put her to bed until Spring I think!

Off to Normandy to do the beaches and museums

9 nights at http://www.camping-calvados-normandie.fr/?-Camping...

and one at http://www.keatfarm.co.uk/parks/little-satmar-holi... before the ferry out.

Is much cheaper to do Newbury - Dover - Calais than any of the other more direct routes.

Weighing in with the VW camper here. Doing 18 days in France starting on the Hull Ferry in June. Plan to head through France and stop off en route to the Alps. Head back stopping off again before finishing with a day visiting the WW1 battlefields.

Shorter trips will hopefully include a 6 day trip along the west coast of Scotland but that might yet change. Plan to also spend a couple of weekends in the Lakes, a weekend in the Yorkshire daes and a couple of nights up at Kielder.

We've got our camping agm this weekend to plan where the rabble are going during the year.
We have about 10 couples/setups that go camping in tents campers and caravans all clubbing in for grub and different drinks.
There's something on just about every weekend throughout the summer but not all of us make every trip.
So far on the definate list is... Two airshows, two trips to Oliver's mount for the bike racing, one hot rod show, two scooter do's and Ackworth Scammell show and steam show.
There'll be a few VW shows in amongst them and a couple of general camping weekends plus Pickering war weekend if we can be arsed going so late in the year.
Two families (my mate and me) started camping 10 years ago in tents to get the kids out of the house. Those kids are now in their 20s and still come on some trips but its mainly us old 'UN's that are there now getting drunk and entertaining ourselves and those around us (sometimes not) with our brass band and percussion.
So if any of you see a mint white and green splattered VW bay and a 500quid palace with a Chinook vinyl on the side please come say hello and you can have a shot of something disgusting but alcoholic.
Here's to a happy camping 2016.

First trip of the year today, off to the Forest of Dean for a couple of days with SWMBO and the dog. Looking forward to it, we haven't been away for ages, which we realised when we went to pick up the motorhome from our storage place yesterday to find the battery completely dead (yes, our faults, we know, we be repeating that mistake again). Had to get the RAC out in the end and also get a new battery too **cough** at £135 **cough**.

Still, lesson learned!

Initially booked Woolacombe in late July for 10 days but now decided too far this year (from Lincs) and going to N Wales instead, probably around Abersoch/Aberdaeron area.

If anyone has any recommendations please post them up.

No weekends booked as yet.
We normally have a few at Clumber, 1 at Chatsworth and maybe on the east coast (Sutton on Sea).

129 for me bounce

Until then we will have to satisfy ourselves with

- 2 weeks touring mid/north Wales at Easter
- BH weekend near Hereford
- May half term at the New Forest and Cheddar

plus several weekends which remain to be booked smile

Hard life innit! biggrin

I've just bought a Campervan so plans for 2016 are to use it as much as possible, including a big 2 week trip to either Scotland or France.

One day I plan on going to the black sea following the Danube.

I have to say, it doesn't seem that far to go for a 10 day holiday? Get up and leave early (5am) and you'd be there by late morning!

I would love to go to France but wifey is not happy travelling in our 1981 camper such distances with the two kids (despite in four years it has never let us down frown ). We used to go camping with a tent and VX220/ MR2/ Smart Roadster throughout Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium....) and we loved it.....

So Easter, Isle of Wight, probably near Brighstone for three nights.
May Bank Holiday, New Forest for two nights, probably. Any recommendations?
Whitsun, Charmouth, Dorset for five nights.
Beginning of August - somewhere near Longleat and then Bath - can you take a camper through the safari park??
End of August - VDub island - Newport, Isle of Wight for three nights.

That's all we have planned but we might try a few other weekends locally dependent on the weather at the time....

First proper outing is Easter - Stanwix at Silloth and on to Sherwood Forest before heading north again.

Any good/bad of experiences of either location would be good to hear.
