Well, seeing as we've partly booked up our summer holiday next year, thought I'd start a 2016 thread!

We're going back to the excellent Domaine de la Breche for 10 nights at the end of July: http://www.domainedelabreche.com/web/?lang=en

This site was an absolute winner this year, great location, loads to do both on and off site, the kids loved it and the staff were great. Highly recommended.

And we're also looking around to try and find somewhere for 5 nights on the way back to Calais, might take a look at Normandy. Have found this site, anyone been?

http://www.lecormoran.com/en/ It gets some excellent reviews.

As for the tail end of 2015, we're taking the kids up to Alton Towers at half term for 3 nights at The Star C&CC site, and that will be it for the year.

We've had 26 nights away this year and have had some truly memorable breaks. Bring on next year!

Hi Rosscow,

Weirdo Wurth stalker here! wink

Am looking into getting all set up this year & buying between now & March to try & bag a bargain. Self imposed budget of c.£5k should see me in a 2008/9 5 berth (something like an Adria?) with all the awning & gubbins thrown in. Don't want to spend much more as the kids will knacker it anyway furious

We may return to this site near Le Mans as it was outstanding!

http://en.chateau-de-chanteloup.com/

Then we plan to use it weekend on/weekend off throughout the year from Easter!

Just need to find "the" van...

Hi Rosscow,

stuff
Hi!

Sounds like a good plan! I think for £5k you'll be looking at a private sale? In which case, do your homework and buy a damp meter!

We paid £7400 for our large 2008 6 berth twin axle Ace, but that was 2 years ago (caravan was 5 years old when we bought it). We bought privately but it did have a little bit of damp - fortunately it had a year of the manufacturers warranty left and was a one owner from new caravan with full service history so was repaired free of charge under warranty.

Ours came with everything you'd need - good awning, ground sheets, 2 x aqua rolls, 2 x gas bottles, waste water, 2 x steps, wheel clamp, the lot.

Good luck with your search! And you might find it more fruitful to look 'up north' where there seems to be lots more choice and more value in the private sale sector.

I'll look into that site - I have heard good things about it before. It's in the same group (Les Castels) as the site we went to this year so I'm sure it's superb.

Edit - at Chanteloupe, what pitch would you recommend?

We were in B08 & I quite fancied the ones further up that lane (B16/17 onwards) - a bit more privacy!

No problems with our pitch though!

Just spoken to the owner (Dominique) - what a lovely guy. Think we'll go here instead of Normandy. Gets fantastic reviews!

Cheers beer

Hope you don't mind a motorhomer joining in, but next year our only planned trip is to sometime take the ferry from Plymouth down to Santander and then drive back up through Spain/France to Roscoff. I suspect we'll be going to Beautiful Days festival again - this year was the first for not having to endure festival bogs - hopefully it won't be wet three years in a row plus there'll be the usual last minute weekenders away in Cornwall.

That will be an expensive ferry - I'd budget £700 for that!

Great trip though, although I'd be tempted to stay in Spain and take in the North and Portugal.

I've done it several times on my motorbike and Northern Spain and Portugal is a stunning place.

Coming back up through France we are intending to make it a leisurely affair so are looking to make the trip last a fortnight or so. Didn't think about taking in more of Spain though - it's definitely an idea. As to the ferry, we paid that for a return on the Plymouth to Roscoff overnighter this summer when we had a cabin each way. We had a week and a bit around Nantes and that ferry crossing alone was probably 75% of our spend.

Honestly, I was blown away by the scenery and roads. Across the Picos de Europa, the Northern coast is stunning, and drop down into Montesinho National Park in Portugal. Beautiful!

Haven't booked anything yet for next year. We re-started caravanning after 8 years away, back in April. We bought a Lunar Quasar and did about 20 nights in a couple of months, until our eldest Lab was diagnosed with cancer. Fast forward to October and we are just getting a Towbar fitted onto our new Audi Q3 on Monday

We've also been looking today at another new (bigger) caravan. We bought a 2015 Lunar Quasar 482 and are now looking at a 2016 Bailey Brindisi.

We are going to take the caravan away between Christmas and New Year, but as for next year i'm not sure. Our touring will be mainland UK and we will probably explore much further away as we have previously only been away locally so we maximising time away at weekends.

We now live in France and have wintered in Spain for the last five years. We'll be heading south towards the end of next week. Plans are, Benidorm for 4 weeks or so, then forty miles south to Marjal Costa Blanca for a couple of months before moving down to Gibraltar for a month, probably stopping off for a couple of weeks along the way at Majacar.

We'll then return home for about 3 weeks and then up to UK for our annual visit to catch up with family and friends for 6 weeks and then it's back to France for the summer.

Don't know how I found time to go to work !
