I now have myself an XC60 D5 4wd fitted with a towbar so I'm looking forward to stealing my parents caravan and getting away for a few days.

I'm at tipping point. Done about 6 or 7 weeks in our T5 camper this summer and wanting more space. Very very tempted to chance selling it in the next month or so and buying a rig with all the bits with it over the winter. Never afraid to buy private (prefer it actually as you see where stuff comes from) but know a damp meter will be my best friend.

I've always hated caravans, mocked, jeered and sneered at them. For holidays we are fortunate to be able to stay in really super places (either with or without dogs).

I have 3 dogs and I compete in agility and also go to training camps and so it will be perfect for us... camping isn't an option, but husband doesn't join me at these things.

so.....I'm going to be collecting an Airstream next week. I'm very excited! Ha! About a caravan - I never thought I'd say that and I still feel like I'm confessing to some bizarre perversion.

Snap (almost exactly although I have to tow our van to the shows as my wife can't on her current licence), so might see you at a show. We bought ours for exactly the same reason as you and never thought we would own a caravan. At least in an airstream you'll be easy to spot. Our caravan is the one with the PH smiley sticker on the back....

You need to seriously lock that up! What are you towing with? They're a heavy old van.

Enjoy!

Cayenne, it's perfect for it. We have a gated drive and it will have a tracker and ground anchor. I've been told Airstreams are not popular with thieves as they are very hard to move on in the UK. Although I won't take any chances. smile

2o2o smile it's just the way we were taught but it suits him because he's a cheeky little monkey who likes to take short cuts if he thinks he can second guess the next move.

Quite. We stayed in a Hotel Du Vin at the weekend. Room + B&B was £290/night. Dinner for two with wine (mediocre at £38/bottle) was £140 on top. Car park full of PH fodder, powerfully built company directors at every turn.

Room: large, clean, nicely appointed, comfy bed. Experience somewhat let down by adjacent room's power shower pump making a racket at 07:30am on Sunday morning.
Dinner: Starter very nice, main very disappointing, ambience ruined by four middle aged old duffers at the next table talking absolute guff, loudly.
Breakfast: Understaffed, people waiting for tables, continually running out of water/juice, fry up worse than the one I recently had at a £60/night Premier Inn

In short, it was an expensive disappointment. Some hotels and their punters believe that more expensive=better. In many cases it's not. I thought of this thread as I reluctantly paid the tab on departure.

Its an EU 534 studio that is 2.5 wide, needs a few things putting 'back' in it over the next year or so but perfect for my 'overnight' needs with the extra space rather than packed full of furniture and storage that I don't need. Has a double bed, microwave, fridge, heating, sink, tv etc.

She's been named 'Jolene' (please don't take my van). biggrin

I'm a novice and have been doing JJ and independent shows this year, some of the KC shows don't offer G1-3 but also been waiting to get the van and get used to towing it before booking up the ones further afield (I have two who don't compete as well). Next one for us is SEA winter series in East Sussex 23rd.

Honestly never thought I would be discussing caravans AND agility on PH biggrin

We enjoy the KC shows, only a couple of the bigger ones have seemed a bit cliquey, all of the others we have done everyone has been kind and helpful. We started going with our first dog about 4-5 years ago and its just sort of snowballed from there (to the point we bought a caravan in May this year - something I, like you, never thought would happen).

lol yep, my wife qualified for the Olympia semis at KCI this year but Jess had a pole or 3 down so didn't get through. Also qualified for ABC semis at discover dogs to go to crufts a few years ago but again it was first huge indoor show and first time Jess had travelled and been in an environment like that and didn't get through to the final in that either but both were huge experiences for a 1st dog trained by a handler starting with zero experience. She has run in a couple of champ classes but only enters if they are at a show we are going to anyway. Likewise we don't really search out the qualifiers specifically.

Anyway, to get back on track our caravan is nowhere near as posh as the airstream!
