I currently take a small calor bottle with me (4.5kg) to fuel the Cadac safari chef we use on occasion when away.
My thinking is that I can buy another low pressure regulator and just screw that in to the Propane bottle which is with the caravan itself to avoid taking 2 bottles and the extra weight.
I know I could have a BBQ point installed on the van, but at £150, it seems a rather extreme way of doing it when I can get a regulator for less than a tenner plus additional pipe for the same amount. Total outlay £20.

I'm thinking of a 5m hose to allow flexibility in regards siting of the BBQ, however I just want to check there is no limitation or best practice around what length I can use?

Do you not use the gas in the caravan then? Hob, oven, water/space heater, etc?

Otherwise you'll be swapping between the two.

I have 2 of the Calor Lite bottles, one permanently connected to the caravan and the other with a long hose.
I just leave the other bottle in the front locker, with the hose coming out to the BBQ. I then lock the front locker.
When we use the BBQ, I just unlock the front locker and turn the gas on.
That way, we've always got another bottle of gas should the main caravan bottle run out.

I do use the hob on occasion, but other than that, electric hook up always powers the other stuff.
I didn't think un-connecting the gas supply would be a big issue, that way just use one bottle and save a little weight, and just re-connect up as and when required.
On second thoughts though, I'm probably just better off sticking with 2 bottles and have the flexibility of being able to use the hob and BBQ at the same time.

These Lite bottles, do you know if I can take an existing (non lite) bottle into a stockist and swap them or do I have to buy a new one again with relevant deposit etc?

I have a selection of Propane, Calor and Patio gas ones at home, mostly half full, such a grind!

I don't officially think you can..... https://www.calor.co.uk/gas-bottles/buying-gas-bot...

But I seem to remember striking lucky and swapping a standard one for a lite 2 years ago. Try it!

I was in a similar position but on my caravan I do have a gas point fitted but its location is a pain.
I have a pipe connected to the Cadac which can be no more than 2m in length with a push fit connector that fits the caravan outlet. I then purchased a second regulator, a small bit of pipe and another pushfit connector so that i have the choice to use the caravan outlet or if I am using the full awning or need to cook in another area I lift out my second spare gas bottle screw in the regulator and the small pipe adapter and connect the Cadac.
Simple really and cost under £20 for the bits.
There is almost nothing you cant cook on the Cadac.
I could even give you some links to the parts needed if you require.
