We need one.

I prefer charcoal - but can be persuaded to go gas. Any recommendations?

Hi Mate, certainly for the caravan a Cadac is great!! Get the top with the flat and griddle. Ideal for breakfast eggs and sausages and bacon! Nice wok and easy to light.

Not heavy and easy to fit in the front locker of the caravan if you have noseweight to spare.

Wot 'e said. I have just used a Cadac with the flat/griddle top to do breakfast for 6 for a week. Fantastic bit of kit.

We have a Cadac Carri Chef 2. Great product - we have the griddle, BBQ grill, roasting pan and skottel top.

When away I use it to cook everything on.

Ive got the Cadac which gets used massively on holiday - have the optional paella pan which we do a monster Jambalaya in (Hairy Bikers Healthy Cook book version) and gets alot of attention while cooking.

Also take a small charcoal portable (need to upgrade to the weber portable) for when I need to get my smoke on...

BBQ is life - choose Gas and 'Coal :-)

Well I'll buck the trend. Is a bbq really a bbq if it uses gas or is it just grilling outside?
For me, I wholeheartedly endorse the Weber Go Anywhere. Superb quality, really good size and really simple to get a good bbq going with no fuss in around 30 mins. Plenty of openings for adjustments on temperature and 13 briquettes will provide enough heat for a good hour of cooking. Haven't tried a slow cook yet but see no reason why it can't. Can easy store enough charcoal inside for 6 bbqs individually bagged including firefighters and a cleaning brush. Go outdoors usually has the best prices on them.

At home I always cook on 'coal - but 2 or 3 weeks away in the caravan, gas wins for ease of use. Just light and go - no waiting, no smoke, no smell.

IMO!

Am seriously considering one of these Cadac jobbers.

Don't want to be faffed with an extra gas cylinder though and wondered who runs them directly from the onboard gas supply? If so, did you have a new gas port fitted and how expensive is it?

We have refillable Gas-IT LPG bottles so would seek to run it off of those.

We have the gas fired Go Anywhere Weber, not used it yet so can't really comment.

We did look at doing this but didn't for a couple of reasons: want the ability to move the BBQ around without a mahoosive hose; don't want/need another hose for the kids to trip over; want to use the BBQ at home or when not in MH so need the extra gas cylinder anyway.

I would agree with the above.

In fairness I actually have a fairly long hose and will run the BBQ if possible with the gas bottle still in the front locker.

But like you say, if you want to move it away or take it somewhere for the day (beach, etc.) then it's nice to have a separate gas bottle for it.

If charcoal is the preference then have a look at the COBB BBQ http://www.cobb-bbq.co.uk/
Does a whole lot more than just BBQ'ing with the accessories, packs up to a very small size considering its a BBQ, Wok, Grill, Fryer, Oven etc
Also can normally be used on campsites that dont allow BBQ's due to it having a cool to touch outside so you can move it around whilst in use.

Theres a couple of Facebook groups to get information and ideas about the COBB

Recently bought one of these for my upcoming trip to Spain. Used it twice so far and very impressed. I know some people like gadgets, but if you prefer keeping it simple the Weber is a great choice.

Not cheap but very very good for camping / caravaning. A handful of charcoal in a basket in the middle on top of a little lighter gel and it's ready to cook on in less than 5 mins. Small fan built in blows thru' the charcoal and gets it hot quick. I'm very impressed with ours and the speed you can be up and running with it.

I have the cadac on a hose with the quick fit connector to the gas outlet on the side of the caravan. I also have a y piece that allows me to run a two burner grill at the same time. Works a treat. Also have a gas regulator for the spare bottle that has a small length of hose and the quick fit connector on it. All plug and play.

Another Cadac vote here.

I have refillable gas bottles on my motorhome and have a quick-release external connector for the Cadac.

I do like the idea of a portable charcoal Weber, though, but the versatility of the Cadac with the huge non-stick pan, pizza stone, etc have proved incredibly useful. I'm making bread in mine next week.

I do this - also picked up a small table top kettle BBQ for the "proper BBQ" option. Which one I use depends on time and mood. Often its cadac for breakfast to allow for fried eggs, and charcoal for burger/chops etc in the evening. The kettle is small and light and lives in the front locker, the Cadac lives under a seat near the axle

I'm not a big camp chef. Sausages & burgers on the BBQ and coffee on the cartridge gas cooker is about as much as we do over a weekend.

Our fold up BBQ is pretty nifty though, folds completely flat, and turns into a firepit when we're done cooking. oh yes, and we use charcoal in it.

Our motorhome takes 2 x gas bottles, when one was empty we had to mess around swapping them over, we replaced the original regulator with an auto changeover valve with built in regulator...

http://www.gasit.co.uk/leisure-gas-refillable-prod...

And then on the low pressure side (after the regulator) we fitted a T Piece and a BBQ Outlet

http://www.gasit.co.uk/leisure-gas-refillable-prod...

The BBQ point is inside the gas locker rather than external, but it takes 10 seconds to unlock the locker and plug in the connector.

We then fitted a 5m pipe onto the Cadac BBQ and just use the motorhome gas supply

The Cadac is great, but beware that the one we have does not have a thermocouple and if it goes out the gas continues to pump out. It caught me out once!

I've got one of these, it's excellent. Gets up to temperature quickly, almost no smoke and really easy to take apart and clean. Can't beat it for quick proper BBQs.
