What's the advantage of running new veg oil? - savings are minimal considering the hassle and risk factor.
Cost.

As said, I was paying 60-odd pence per litre when diesel was 1.20+ so quite a saving on a guzzler like the Bongo. Performance wasn't down significantly and it smelled nice too, like a mobile chip shop.

Lots of conversion info on the Bongo Fury forum including fitting twin tanks which I didn't bother with although not technically difficult.

As for hassle and risk factor - nil providing you keep the receipts for oil, according to HMRC you are allowed 2500 litres per annum before any tax liability so I kept a record of consumption and mileage but never needed it. It take 2 minutes with a funnel to chuck 40 litres of oil in the tank and then you only need to brim with diesel.

Not as cheap these days. Probably 20p / litre saving, at best.

I bought mine wholesale, 5 x 20 litre drums at a time for well under £70. Not much more now I believe it's worth doing as the price of fuel is on the increase.

Been fancying a Bongo for over a year now, but with me, wife and 11 yr old son and two dogs, wife thinks it'll be too small. Only thinking day van or over one night. Could also tow a light car transporter to events.
Wa at the place in M'boro a couple of months ago, the guy there, not the owner, was suggesting the big bling Nissan. Not sure of the looks, had never heard of them so wass concerned about spares etc. but they have more space inside. Cn you gt fit out kits for them?

I'd avoid the Bongo. Elgrands are alright, but the Alphard appears to be gathering momentum as a Bongo alternative.

We love our V6 Alphard. You have to have them LPG converted as they're a little thirsty - although the facelift can be had with a hybrid powerplant offering over 30mpg.

I'll update my thread about our Alphard tonight - as we've now had the camper conversion done. It's awesome.
