And what are you planning to buy? Or more important, what has you other half decided is on or off the menu?

we've got a 15 Swift Lifestyle, v. nice van but there's a few things I'm less than enthusiastic about and have dropped in conversation that for "only" an extra £15k we can get the perfect van. Except I wouldn't be able to defrost it, she's that cold to the idea, Says Swifty is perfect and we don't NEED a new one. Telling her she doesn't NEED thirty pairs of shoes was the wrong thing to say too. You'd have thought after 42 years I'd know to stfu

Hmm, we'll see.

So over to you chaps, any big spenders out there? Or little one, that's interesting too, gadgets are good.

No way, not going.

Extending the house next year so anything remotely expensive is off the agenda!

Enjoy!

We're going. I want to go and poke around a particular model from Roller Team, but I've no idea if it's going to be there. No big deal if it's not, will still be interesting to see the other stuff.

We're going, even though replacing the camper is not on the agenda. Mrs Peel wants to see the choice of motorhome layouts - we might go for it one day. She reckons a fixed bed would be non-negotiable, I suspect all the vans that have them would be too big for my liking. We'll see...

Accessories and gadgets are worth the trip alone I've been told. True?

That's on our list too, hence the Roller Team T-Line 740 is on the radar.

Fixed beds are great if they're big enough. In our last caravan and Ace Viscount, we had a fixed bed I think they call it a French bed it's got a corner cut off. It was OK for me sleeping on the outside but SWMBO found it a pain having to climb over me to go to the loo in the night and the bed was quite narrow but worst was she hated being hemmed in against the wall.

The bed's one of the things I'd change with Swifty but it'd have to be an island bed and not sure if they're big enough. At the moment I sleep at the back in the made up lounge bed (grrr I hate making up the bed) and SWMBO sleeps upstairs

Yep, agreed - we rented a motorhome in Aus with a fixed corner bed and it was a pain (for me). The 'van we're looking at has an island bed.

We are going, looking at small campers which could replace the wife's daily commuter.

Suspect everything will be too expensive for my wallet (friends call me Arkwright as I work in retail and hate spending cash!)... And we are being very tempted by the basic Bumble Campers setup based on Toyota Previas.

I'd love a Bongo, but not at the priced being asked!

I have replaced my fixed french bed Bessacarr with a transverse bedded Knaus. The French bed was rubbish tbf. The transverse is fully sprung and wonderful in comparison as well as being much bigger.

We are going, looking for a safari room for our awning, plus a gas burner/heater to suit the outdoor space over winter.

Also looking at an additional leisure battery, self levelling systems, visual propane regulator, anything that will help clean the dog, new plates/cutlery etc.

Plus which club to join, best camp sites info, and any gps/gadget equipment that will make route planning easier.

Most importantly though for me is sussing out broadband, sat TV, as I will be working whilst living in my motorhome some time.

Would a drop-down in an A-Class count as a fixed bed?

We initially baulked at the idea, but the one in our Hymer 640 is really comfortable and keeps the rest of the van free for living space - all within 6.7m of length.

They may not be for everyone, but they are at least in the main, full size double beds. In the case of ours, the mattress sits on slats and is very comfy indeed.

We leave it fully made up, pop the ladder on top of the bed and then push it away and secure it once we're out of bed. Or, in the case of little one going to bed before us - she sleeps up on the bed and we still have the whole of the van (except for the cab, which is relatively cold anyway) for us to use without disturbing her.

I personally think it makes for a van which is far more useable and comfortable due to the lack of things impinging on the living space and allows manufacturers to squeeze more into a smaller space. Relatively speaking.

Going Sunday,

Starting to look at what's available, looks like island bed and a second drop-down are on the list, so it would seem around 7.3-7.5mtr is the norm.

Talking to a chap with a Swift who had had it 6 months and was fed up with stuff falling off, so was buying a Carthago.

Will be checking out Burstners and Dethleffs and Rapidos.

Is it worth the trip or is it just like a big multi brand dealership? Im thinking of going but it's a 500 mile round trip. I'm trying to convince missus that we need to sell the vw transporter and go for a caravan. She thinks the van suits our needs.

We are going Tuesday...looking at the new Autotrail Comanche (bed size); Chausson 610; other vendors with slide out MHs (Morello, RS, Moro Trek); and Thule for their Quickfit Awning

We are staying in Brum for the night so if we don't get around it all we'll pop back on the Weds

Looking forward to it, never been to the big one before...

Little disappointed this year. Good show and good displays, but was underwhelmed by pricing and show offers on new Motorhomes. Stands were busy, admittedly, but had to almost drag some info out of a guy on one stand, he would not give us a price or even an idea as to possible discount (and since the sticker price was some 10% up on 2016 model with minor changes only) without doing a full house quote. Just stood over by the main desk, didn't offer to show us around it, nothing.
Eventually managed to nick a guy from another dealer who was dealing with a potential customer in a display model, and he gave us an idea. A good 5 to 8% more than same model from last year / Feb. Then there was the lead time, by Easter, but not guaranteed much before, "maybe March".

We were left a bit deflated by the whole experience. We went to finance chap and he was helpful, but the PCP options now on offer are just not realistic. The residuals are so low (apparently as they have no data to go on), it is a seriously pricey option even with a good deposit.

So still no motorhome!
