Hi folks, my OH has managed to blag a campervan from her work this weekend and it's up to me to decide where to take it. We'll be leaving Edinburgh area mid afternoon on Friday and don't want to be travelling too far for the first night, maybe two hours distance, then another few hours for the Saturday so we don't have a massive journey home. The direction isn't too important.
The current favourites are either Loch Lubnaig near Callander then North to Fort William or Blairgowrie and up to the Moray Firth but mainly because that's all I can think of!
The camper seems to be fairly self sufficient but toilets would be a must, ideally somewhere with a nearby pub for food and drinks and preferably somewhere that's nice to be!
Any other suggestions/recommendations on where we can go?

It's a modern VW, not sure it'd make it that far!

After getting my head nipped, I've booked a place near Ullswater called 'The Quiet Site'. Seems to have good reviews and plenty to do for a two day stay.

That's a lovely area with tonnes of beautiful walks. If you are less of a walker and the weather is nice the 'steamer' between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding provides some stunning views and is very relaxing.

The forecast certainly seems decent enough which would be pleasant, I was planning on taking the boat, Pooley Bridge seems within easy walking distance too.
Apart from a couple of trips in my dad's old Bedford CF back in the day and having an old caravan in my marshalling days this will be my first time doing something like this! Should be a step up from tenting I hope!

The Quiet Site is one of my all-time favourite sites. I've stayed there in both tent, motorhome and rented one of their Holiday Cottages. You'll have a lovely time.

There are great walks (and mountainbike rides) from the site. The on-site bar is cosy and does good beer. The only downside is if you want to go for dinner, there's a rather Long walk to a restuarant at Watermillock or a drive to Pooley Bridge is necessary. But I love the place for the tranquility, views and Setup of the place.

Enjoy! smile

Just to update, we had a great time. I'm converted to the campervan lifestyle laugh.

The site was great and we'll definitely be back. The bar certainly was a lovely place to be after a chilly boat trip.

A couple of snaps, our steed....

A trip from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding....

And on the road beside the lake....

We're now on the lookout for a cheap T5 from the OH's work (she works the rental desk in the local VW van centre) to convert ourselves smile.

Glad you had a good time.

Just reminds me I haven't had my Lake District fix this year!

We'll definitely be back in the future, I had totally forgotten how much there was to do in the area, also great to see how the place has gotten back on it's feet since the floods last winter.

IIRC the list price is £55k for that one! I think that they charge that because they can. It's still a superb thing though, 205bhp too!
