Alex - Aire Baie du Somme is a good stopping point, especially if you're on your way down to Nantes and have got the ferry across from Dover to Calais. The parking is safe and quiet for an Aire and if you want in the morning, you can get a decent feed at the service area. the bonus is that it's also a wildlife/bird sanctuary and so if it's a fine morning, there's often quite a lot to see.

Point is, I'd drive to Dover, get the ferry and then get to the above Aire before stopping. Topping up in France is cheaper as well if you're using diesel!

Thanks, that looks pretty good and as it's on the motorway it's easy to find. I'll see how things work out!

I had a mechanical issue which forced me to stop before crossing, Marine Parade was good, there were vans dotted all along the road too.
On the way back we stopped in Canterbury, that was a good shout! Busy too, 13 vans last night.

Thanks for the help.

We have stayed a couple of times at a campsite in a village called licques. It's about 20 mins south from the tunnel terminal.

As I recommended I just looked on their website, they don't open till the middle of March so I wouldn't expect anything from them till then, they have always replied to our e mails so try again then. Never had a problem getting in there

On the original point...

We always stop at the CC site near Folkestone for the night before a Chunnel crossing and then Gate House Wood Touring Park near Wrotham, on our way back through. The latter is 400m from a Beefeater which, after a month on the Continent, does me proud with proper ale and a mixed grill lick
