Stop before or after crossing the channel?

Alex - Aire Baie du Somme is a good stopping point, especially if you're on your way down to Nantes and have got the ferry across from Dover to Calais. The parking is safe and quiet for an Aire and if you want in the morning, you can get a decent feed at the service area. the bonus is that it's also a wildlife/bird sanctuary and so if it's a fine morning, there's often quite a lot to see.
Point is, I'd drive to Dover, get the ferry and then get to the above Aire before stopping. Topping up in France is cheaper as well if you're using diesel!

Thanks, that looks pretty good and as it's on the motorway it's easy to find. I'll see how things work out!Point is, I'd drive to Dover, get the ferry and then get to the above Aire before stopping. Topping up in France is cheaper as well if you're using diesel!

We have stayed a couple of times at a campsite in a village called licques. It's about 20 mins south from the tunnel terminal.

On the original point...
We always stop at the CC site near Folkestone for the night before a Chunnel crossing and then Gate House Wood Touring Park near Wrotham, on our way back through. The latter is 400m from a Beefeater which, after a month on the Continent, does me proud with proper ale and a mixed grill
